Our beautiful new home is perfectly situated between the town of Jackson and Jackson Hole Mountain Resort! You'll have some of the best skiing in the world just 10 mins away, and have world-class fishing, hiking, biking, kayaking, and rafting right out your door. Our house is nestled in the trees of our 2-acre property on the historic Linn Ranch. You’ll love our home because of the high ceilings, open floor plan, full kitchen, large windows & amazing views! 1 BR plus a queen bed in the loft.
Our private 2-acre property is densely populated with wildlife of all kinds: elk, moose, deer, eagles, heron, geese, ducks, osprey, coyotes, beavers, porcupines, and even the occasional black bear or wolf. We can sometimes sit and eat breakfast and watch a herd of elk grazing in the yard. On top of that, our property is adjacent to our family's historic working ranch so you will see plenty of cows, horses, and maybe even a donkey or llama wandering by.
Our house is modern in design with rustic cabin touches like exposed wood beams and barnwood trim, and is fully furnished with an eclectic mix of antiques and mid-century modern furniture. It has huge beautiful windows facing north and south and heated concrete floors that keep it wonderfully cozy in the winter and nice and cool in the summer. The loft bridge and bedroom is accessed via a library ladder and overlooks the entryway and open kitchen and living room. Our bathroom feels like a spa with a deep freestanding tub and a wonderful rain shower. The house is filled with natural light at all times of the year!
You'll have access to our full 2 acres, including our favorite spot: a table and two chairs set on a small stone patio in the middle of the creek that runs by the house - we call it Breakfast Island. You can also wander into the main pasture of the Ranch to visit the horses and cows, or soak in the sun in yard in front of the house. If you are interested, we can arrange for a family member to accompany you on a walk (or cross-country ski) around the full property, including our ponds and the banks of the Snake River. Please note that you can't go explore the Ranch (beyond our 2 acres) without being accompanied by a family member.
In the house itself the mechanical room is closed to guests.
We love where we live and are happy to share our recommendations and knowledge of Jackson Hole with you, if you would like! We can also leave you alone to enjoy the peace and tranquility of total cozy privacy. We (or our parents if we are out of town) can be there to check you in and will then be available to answer any questions during your stay. Let us know if you are interested in taking a walk (or cross-country ski) around the Ranch, or if you would like advice on hikes in the national parks, skiing, fishing, other activities restaurants, nightlife, etc. If we're not working we may even be able you to accompany you on some of those activities and show you a bit of the local experience!
We live right on our family's historic homestead in Jackson Hole, the Linn Ranch. The Linns arrived in the valley in 1904 and settled exactly where we are today. Jackson Hole was a very different place at that time - there were no paved roads, no cars, and town was a day's ride away by horseback. Things have changed a lot in the past 110+ years: now we are situated on the west bank of the Snake River, off of the Moose-Wilson Road (Highway 390) which is the main road out to Teton Village at the base of Jackson Hole Mountain Resort. From our house you can get to the town of Jackson by car in fifteen minutes, the town of Wilson in five minutes, and the ski resort in less than ten minutes. We are right across the road from Teton Pines which is one of the valley's many fantastic golf courses, and there are two excellent restaurants within walking distance: The Q Roadhouse and The Calico. There are several more dining options a short drive away near Teton Pines, and of course a huge variety of restaurants and bars all across the valley.
Despite being so close to the action in Jackson Hole, because we are out on the Ranch itself, our house is extremely quiet and private. Our closest neighbors are family members and none of their homes are visible from inside the house. It really feels like you are ensconced in your own private western paradise.
In the larger area surrounding us we have Yellowstone and Grand Teton National Parks, several National Forests, the National Elk Refuge feeding ground, three ski resorts (Jackson Hole, Snow King in the town of Jackson, and Targhee near Driggs, Idaho), and several large lakes, all of which provide a multitude of fun options for recreational activities, day trips, and next stops.
There is a START bus stop (our excellent public transit system) right down the road (2 minute drive or 10 minutes walk). You can easily take the bus to Jackson Hole Mountain Resort (Teton Village), Teton Pines/the Aspens, or the town of Jackson. We are also right off the bike pathway system that connects you to Teton Village or Jackson (bikes not provided but can easily be rented in Jackson or Teton Village). If you plan to tour the National Parks or other wilderness areas, there are a wide variety of tour guide operations (snowmobiles, hikes, mountain climbing, horse-packing trips, guided bus tours, etc) or you can rent a car at the airport or in the town of Jackson. The airport is on the other side of the river and is roughly 40 minutes away depending on weather and traffic. There are also airports 1.5 hours away in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and 5.5 hours away in Salt Lake City, Utah, which can sometimes be cheaper and easier to fly into than Jackson Hole itself.
The second bed is located in the loft and is accessed by a library-style ladder. As such, it is probably not a good option for small children or elderly folks (or anyone with a fear of climbing) to stay up there as they will have to climb down the ladder in the night to use the bathroom.
The temperature in the house is controlled by the in-floor heating system, which takes some time to adjust itself to changes of the thermostat. Please let us know if you prefer the house to be warmer or cooler than average and we'll get it set up for you before you arrive.
In the wintertime the driveway must be plowed when it snows. The snowplow will arrive in the morning and work until the driveway is clear. If you need to get out to go somewhere while they are working simply get their attention and they will move out of the way as soon as they have the opportunity. We will take care of shoveling out the front of the house on those snowy mornings for you!House Rules:- Pets are allowed with pre-approval for an additional $150 deposit.
- The 2nd bed is located in the loft, which is accessed via a library ladder. Guests staying in the loft must be comfortable with climbing up and down!
- Guests must be accompanied by us or our one of our family members when walking on the Ranch (outside of our 2-acre property). Please let us know if you are interested in doing this.
