Walk into a beautiful foyer and large living room with 10-foot ceilings for the perfect sense of space. The living room has large windows with spectacular views and a gas fireplace to cozy up on a cool evening. There is a formal dining room where you and your family or friends can gather around the large table which comfortably seats 8 or more.
Whether you love to cook or would rather hire a personal chef the well a pointed gourmet kitchen is a pleasure. The bar in the kitchen has everything you need to fix a drink or pour yourself a glass of wine from the wine fridge. Let us know and we will stock it with your preferences for a small fee.
There is a large butler's pantry with an additional refrigerator and large sink. This room has access to outside and the double car garage. It is perfect for dinner prep or to wash up when coming in from the lake.
The Master Bedroom is spacious and comfortable with a wall of windows to view the lake. The immense en-suite bath has a walk-in shower, Jaquez tub, separate toilet room and plenty of counter space. Off the bathroom is a large dressing room. The bedroom opens to a sky lighted vaulted ceiling garden breakfast/dinner room that affords the perfect waterfront view.
In the right wing of the house are two sizable bedrooms each with a queen bed. They share a full bath with a walk-in shower. Both rooms are quiet and restful.
Wander up the beautiful staircase of the living room to the upper quarters. Here you will find a family room with games and an LCD TV. Gather around the table for a board game or relax and watch a movie. There is desk space here too if you need to check in with the office or do a little computer work.
On this level, there is also a full bath with tub and a bedroom. The bedroom has two single beds and a small couch.
The laundry room is on the first floor. Great for a quick load or for longer stays housekeeping services are available.
Enjoy lunch on the large deck under the shade of the umbrella or in one of the 2 gazebos. Then spend time relaxing in an anti-gravity chair and gazing at the lake. When evening comes gather around the wood burning fireplace on the deck and listen to the loons on the lake.
Take the short path down to the lake and private dock. Enjoy swimming or the best bass fishing in the area. Kayak and canoes are available for rent in town or bring your own and explore the gorgeous calm lake. There are lots of hidden gems and little beaches to find. If you wish to bring a larger boat there is a public dock a short distance away.
This is the perfect place to come relax and unwind. But if you want to get out and about there are lots of options.
The ocean is a half hour where you can see the highest tides in the world. At Cobscook State Park or Lubec, you can view the Bay of Funding and the dramatic 15-18 foot tide difference. Or head to Cobscook Reversing Falls in Pembroke, see the water go up the rocks when the tide is coming in. Stay for high tide and the experience of a lifetime. The quickly rising tides will suddenly become completely still then the water will reverse its flow and tide will start to quickly lower.
This area offers some of the best hiking in the North East. Skip the crowds of Bar Harbor and Acadia there are lots of breathtaking hikes right here. A few favorites are Carrying Place Cove, Destiny Bay, and Bold Coast. But there are many, many more. All are well maintained and none are crowded.
If lighthouses are your thing there are plenty in the area. Just minutes away is West Quoddy. At the easternmost point of the United States, you will find the famous red-and-white striped lighthouse. Travel a bit further to Campobello (passport required) and the East Quoddy Lightstation, known as the "Head Harbour Light" to local residents, the tower is designated as a Classified Heritage Site. If you want to tour the lighthouse plan your visit for low tide. This is the only time the lighthouse is accessible.
On your way back to the US be sure to stop and enjoy Roosevelt Campobello International Park. This is a charming, natural wonder located on Campobello Island where the late U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt spent his summers with his wife, Eleanor, and their children. It’s easy to see what brought the man who became a great American president back to this Canadian island year after year- the unspoiled beauty of the spectacular Bay of Fundy is simply irresistible. For a special treat time your visit to have "Tea with Eleanor." Or once back in Lubec and have dinner on the deck at Frank's Dockside. Enjoy some excellent food including local specials while watching the seals play in the narrows.
For another day’s adventure go whale watching - see humpbacks, finbacks, and minkes that seasonally frequent our water. There are several guided excursion and tour boats to choose from. You’ll also see plenty of dolphins sluicing around you and harbor seals popping their heads above the surface or sunning themselves on ledges.
Lobster! Come aboard a classic Downeast lobster boat for a truly authentic Maine experience. Enjoy a personalized, fun-filled family adventure in beautiful Downeast Maine. You can haul (or watch) up lobster traps to discover what treasures Maine waters. Or pick up a basket full fresh off the boat at one of the many pounds and have a feast.
DownEast has a wealth of bird watching opportunities. Among birds, you’ll see harlequin ducks waggling their way across harbors, herons swooping over marshes, ospreys perched in their huge nests atop trees, and eagles regally watching over all. You can even take excursions to the outer islands to spy the Atlantic puffin, often called “sea parrots” for their colorful look.
For a true Maine wilderness experience, you can take an inland excursion—by foot, canoe, kayak, air-conditioned van, or pontoon boat—to see the moose, Maine’s official state animal. Weighing over 1,000 pounds, with antlers reaching five feet across, they are majestic animals, most active at sunrise and sunset. You might even see a moose along the roads, nibbling the vegetation!

In 20 minutes or less, you can be in the historic town of Machias. Check out the Burnham Tavern Museum, this local historical site maintained and operated by local women in the DAR. Learn about the battle of the Margharetta, the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War. Take a stole through Bad Little Falls and learn the how Machias was named. Then head over to the solar-evaporated Maine sea salt plant. Finish the adventure at Helen's Restaurant world famous for their Blueberry Pie.
Take a drive to Eastport the easternmost city in the United States (Lubec is further east but is a town) on Moose Island. Enjoy the local shops and the Overlook Park walk. From here you can take a ferry to Deer Island (passport required.) The Old Sow, the largest tidal whirlpool in the western hemisphere can be viewed from Deer Island Point Park.
Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor are about an hour and a half drive away.
