This large, detached farmhouse is part of a 700-acre estate on the shore of Loch Voil and has plenty of space for all guests to enjoy, both inside and out. The living room enjoys views over Loch Voil, and has a cosy wood burner for cooler days in the living room, where guests can relax with a book or just watch the flames. There is a separate dining room and a spacious kitchen with a large table, big enough for everyone to enjoy a meal together and plan the next day’s adventures. The kitchen is fitted with quality contemporary appliances and well equipped for preparing a celebration meal. Children of all ages will enjoy the games room with a small snooker table, a selection of family board games, a cosy sofa, a cloakroom and a door leading directly to the garden. The south facing aspect of the house is ideal for al fresco dining whilst enjoying the views, or in the evening, star watching can be quite spectacular with very little light pollution.
Ideal for guests who want to wander through idyllic scenery and perhaps catch a glimpse of a deer, red squirrel and other wildlife. From your door there is extensive hill walking and cycling, and the surrounding area has many challenging hills and munros (mountains). If you would like to partake in highland sporting, then fishing on a private stretch of Loch Voil and deer stalking can be arranged when in season, and in advance with the owner.
Just outside the village of Balquhidder, the famous outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor’s grave is in the grounds of Balquhidder Parish Church. This area also has many folklore tales with historic and archaeological sites for guests to visit. The area hosts regular events throughout the year including Mhor Musical Festival, folk nights, Highland Games and ceilidhs. Balquidder village hall holds a New Year’s Day ceilidh which is well attended by families in the area.
There are many attractions nearby including the Falls of Dochart at Killin, a steam cruise on Loch Katrine, visitor centres and whisky distilleries where you can sample a wee dram. For days out, the Victorian tourist town of Callander has a good selection of local shops, places to eat and drink, and riverside walks. Stirling, with its impressive castle and Wallace Monument, is only 30 miles away and well worth a visit. The bustling cities of Glasgow and Edinburgh can be reached in 1½ hours. Shop 9 miles, pub and restaurant 1½ miles.
