Peaceful South Lakes cottage with enclosed garden close to Coniston water.

This detached cottage in its own enclosed garden is in an idyllic setting with fine views to the surrounding hills. It is very comfortable, well equipped and homely and is particularly suitable for families with children and groups of up to 7 adults.
Downstairs: The kitchen /dining room is spacious and equipped with everything your chefs might need to prepare delicious meals. The glass panelled door from the dining area leads directly out to the south facing patio and garden. Here, guests can enjoy al fresco dining or just sitting out with a drink to admire the garden and views over the hills beyond. Even in winter this can be a welcome suntrap.
The living room has a wood burning stove, wooden floor with antique rug, low beams and comfortable couches and arm chairs. There is Internet access, a DVD player, NO TV, a CD player, guide books, maps and games.
The downstairs bathroom has a shower cubicle, bath, toilet and basin. There is a utility room with washing machine, heater, space for hanging and drying clothes.
Guests should be aware that as this is an old cottage there are some low doorways and beams downstairs.
Upstairs, bedroom 1 south facing has a double bed, wardrobe and small chest of drawers. Bedroom 2 facing the front has two single beds which can be linked to form a superking bed, wardrobe with shelves. Bedroom 3 has bunk beds and a small chest of drawers. There is a cot available in the games room which can be moved to Bedrooms 1 or 3. The large games/music room has a good piano, small snooker table, table and chairs and a double futon.
The cottage is heated by electricity (this is from 100% renewable sources ) and the wood burner in the living room. Downstairs and on the upstairs landing and in the games room we have new electric storage heaters. In the bedrooms, bathroom and utility room there are new convector heaters. Full instructions on controlling the heating is given in our Information folder. We hope guests will share our respect for the environment by careful use of the heaters.
Outside, the garden is a delight and our guests frequently comment on this; there is seating for six round the table on the patio (this is put away in winter) and there are garden benches, chairs and 2 sun loungers available.
At the front of the cottage there is parking for two cars and a front garden. The quiet road outside leads only to the farm at the top of the hill so there's very little traffic.
Walks directly from the house through the woods lead up to splendid views across Coniston Water to the Old Man of Coniston, one of the most dominant mountains of the South Lakes and Dow Crag and over Morecambe bay to the south. Various circular walks from 3 – 5 miles through woods and over the moors are described in detailed guides in the cottage. As we are so near to the charming village of Coniston (8 miles) and the lake (2 miles) visitors can enjoy boating on the lake: take a trip on the famous Coniston steam yacht gondola; hire a boat or canoe at the Coniston boating centre. For cyclists, there’s nothing better than a ride from the cottage around beautiful Coniston Water. This can be combined with a visit to Brantwood House, garden and tea room, just a few miles along the lake from the cottage. Mountain bikers and walkers love the trails in nearby Grizedale Forest with its sculptures, imaginative play park, Go Ape and visitor centre. There are several pubs serving real ale and good food within a few miles of the cottage. The nearest is the Red Lion at Lowick Bridge, about a mile away (a lovely walk along a quiet lane) where good pub food and a warm welcome is assured. The nearest shops: bakery, butchers, fish and chips and village shop are in the village of Greenodd, 3.5 , miles away.
