Reeth is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts. The striking and varied scenery provides miles of walking routes, both low-level, gentle strolls along the river and more challenging walks with high mountains and valleys lined with streams. There are endless footpaths enjoying the most spectacular scenery.
Following the Tour de Yorkshire, the area is increasingly popular with cyclists and there are many bridleways to ride. The ‘Swale Trail’ opened in 2018, runs from nearby Grinton to Keld and is ideal for families. There is cycle hire just down the road at Grinton so no need to take your own, though if you do the utility room has ample space for storing your bike. There is also an excellent café where you can enjoy a piece of cake before setting off on your ride.
The village of Reeth is very popular with amazing views from the elevated village green. There is a collection of interesting shops including a village store and post office, a gift shop, a gallery, an artisan bakery and an ice cream parlour. Rokeby House is a short walk from of a selection of pubs and restaurants. Relax after an adventurous day by enjoying good local ales and traditional food.
The historic town of Richmond, famous for its castle, Georgian theatre, and abundance of individual shops and tea rooms is a 30-minute drive away. In the opposite direction is Barnard Castle, with its market, cafés, antique shops and the famous Bowes Museum.
The Forbidden Corner in Middleham is only 16 miles away in Wensleydale. Popular with families, it is a quirky venue with its labyrinth of caves and underground caverns. Picturesque Aysgarth Falls and Castle Bolton are en-route with many other pretty picture postcard villages as you pass through. Shop, pub and restaurant 25 yards.
