Situated in the centre of Droxford just a few minutes’ walk from an array of amenities, Buttermilk Cottage is ideal for nature lovers.
This warm and welcoming semi-detached cottage is conveniently located along a lane less than a 5-minute walk from the village shop/post office and three good pubs, plus lovely scenic walks from the door! Buttermilk Cottage is tastefully and stylishly presented, each room is carefully co-ordinated and many thoughtful personal touches have been added. Outside you will find a pretty, small paved garden to front and rear with jasmine, clematis and roses, and cosy nook side garden with a garden sofa to enjoy the owls and night sky with no light pollution.
Droxford has a friendly village feel, and lies in the beautiful Meon Valley and South Downs National Park. Droxford is a walker’s paradise with no less than three pubs in the village and another five good pubs in walking distance, as well as the clear waters of the chalk stream River Meon running through the village and the disused Railway Line Trail which runs from West Meon to Wickham. Here you will see the plaque commemorating the secret meeting which took place between Winston Churchill and President Eisenhower to discuss D-Day in 1944. There is also pony trekking available along the old railway line, various golf clubs locally and Wickham is a lovely place to visit. Other great walks in the area include The Wayfarers Walk, a superb trail running for 71 miles from Inkpen Beacon to the market town of Emsworth, and it can also be joined at Chalk Hill Soberton. Other popular walks include Bere Forest which has 100 acres of woodland walks, and the South Downs Way, which runs through the nearby village of Exton.
East Meon is slightly further afield, with a pretty church and more good pubs. Petersfield market town is within easy driving distance, where there are plenty of restaurants and shops, as well as a train station with connections to London. Other places to visit include Portsmouth with Spinnaker Tower, HMS Warrior and Nelson’s HMS Victory, waterside dining, extensive designer shopping, and ferry trips to the Isle of Wight. Visit the historic Winchester cathedral, King Arthurs’ Round Table, Southampton with its extensive maritime history, and the vast heathland of the New Forest National Park with walks and horse riding. Historic Chichester with its cathedral and festival theatre, beaches at the Witterings or Hayling Island, the Watercress Line steam train, Jane Austen’s House, Marwell Zoo, Peppa Pig World and Birdworld to name a few. Also, Queen Elizabeth Country Park is on the other side of the valley and well worth a visit. Droxford Cricket Club plays at home one Sunday in four, and golf, fishing, walking, birdwatching, horse riding and cycling are all close by, making it an ideal choice for those who enjoy the outdoors!
