The village has a local pub, fish and chip shop, grocery store and a bakery. Burneside is just 10 miles from the M6, making it a very accessible gateway in to the Lakes. The village also has a train station with services into Windermere and Oxenholme, which then connects to the West Coast Mainline. A wider range of amenities including a good selection of individual shops, high street stores, supermarkets, pubs, cafes and restaurants can be found in the bustling town of Kendal, just 3 miles away.
Other popular towns and villages in the South Lakes area worth visiting include Windermere, 9 miles, Ambleside, 11 miles, Hawkshead, 16 miles, and Coniston, 18 miles. There are several stately homes and gardens in the area including Levens Hall and Sizergh Castle, both within a 15-minute drive, and Holker Hall, near Grange-over-Sands, is just 30 minutes’ away. Families with children will enjoy a visit to The World of Beatrix Potter attraction, 9 miles, Lakeside Aquarium and Motor Museum, 19 miles. Slightly further afield is the South Lakes Zoo at 30 miles.
Close to the Dales Way, there are plenty of walking opportunities in the area from a gentle stroll along the River Kent to more challenging fell top walks. A popular place for mountain biking is Grizedale Forest, 24 miles, which has a lovely sculpture trail as well as the GoApe treetop adventure and segway experience that the whole family will enjoy.
