Luxuriously appointed Edwardian Country House, with many original features, surrounded by beautiful heathland, nestled in the heart of the Surrey Hills - designated as an 'Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty'. The house is in the picturesque village of Blackheath with friendly villagers, a vibrant cricket club and really is the perfect country setting. Our home is in the most idyllic position overlooking the Cricket Pitch in the heart of the village with beautiful views over heathland. The house is surrounded by private gardens and two terraces which are perfect for entertaining.
The Surrey Hills are perfect for long walks and are famous for mountain biking trails. The Surrey Hills are also the olympic setting for road biking. From Guildford station we are just 35 minutes from centre of London. Or 40 minutes to historic Portsmouth on the South coast. We are always very happy to collect guests from the airport or station if requested.
We can't think of a better place to spend relaxing time away from the pace of modern life. The perfect venue for a family gathering or a friends catch up. Relax with a gin and tonic and soak up the cricket matches on our private balcony off the master bedroom which gives a wonderful view of the cricket green
We have some fantastic pubs close by - several within walking distance. We will provide you with a guide to these pubs as well as local tea rooms and restaurants worth visiting.

THINGS TO DO
ACTIVITIES: ON OUR DOORSTEP
Walking: we are in a preservation area that is the North Downs and Surrey Hills. You can walk for 20 miles and only cross a few country roads. We have maps and routes for you to explore some of the most scenic countryside in Britain. Whether you want to hike, just take a stroll with your family, or visit a local pub, you will love the walks.
Cycling: the area is a Mecca for cyclists and the selected area for the 2012 Olympic Games. We can hire in bikes for you and my husband will be happy to be your guide or help plan your routes.
Mountain bikes: whether you want to just explore the immediate area with the family or follow the railway trail for miles, or take on the Surrey Hills, there are wonderful trails through heartland, woods and beautiful villages.
Road bikes: my husband is a keen cyclist and has many routes from easy 25km flat routes to longer more challenging routes that take you over some of the iconic surrey hills like Box Hill (Olympic venue), Barhatch (22%) and the long Leith Hill with beautiful views. We also have routes running into Hampshire, Sussex and the coast.
Blackheath Village Cricket Club: from May to September the cricket club just 5 minutes walk across the village, is in full swing. As a guest you can use the pavilion, watch the matches with a beer or gin and tonic or join the Friday evening barbecues.
Our traditional country house, built by the Edwardian architect Harrison-Townsend, is unique in its setting in the midst of 163 square miles of protected heathland and forest across the Surrey Hills. The front of the house has no roads and borders the idylic Blackheath Cricket Club which is one of the most picturesque cricket grounds in Surrey. The club will welcome you to have a drink at their clubhouse during matches. From the front gate, you can walk onto many miles of hiking and cycle trails. Enjoy the elevated views, fresh air, and peaceful surroundings. But just 4 miles away is the County town of Guildford with its cobbled streets, shopping and fine restaurants. Guildford has a fast train service into London every 15 minutes so within 35 minutes you can be in the centre of London.
Our children have now left home and we would like to travel more and are happy to share our house and invite guests to come and enjoy its beautiful country village setting. There is ample car parking space and the location is quiet with no traffic noise. Our house stays warm in the winter with radiators and wood burning stoves but remains cool in the summer, as it has an open position which brings in the summer breezes. We have a lovely entertaining terrace with a giant Green Egg barbeque, comfortable garden furniture a retractable awning to provide shade.
In the corner of the garden you are welcome to use our Candian Spa hot tub (the water is changed weekly and before your arrival).
We have a Sonos music system with 4 zones which includes the garden terrace. We have satellite TV (SKY) and 2 televisions.
There is an enclosed vegetable garden and extensive flower beds that are well maintained and stunningly beautiful in Spring, Summer and Autumn.
If you do not wish to drive we can arrange a taxi service but a car is recommended.
We are just steps away from all the Heathland the Surrey Hills has to offer. Perfect for walking, cycling, and jogging. We feel we have the 'perfect retreat'!
