If I had to describe Dalston in three words, I would say it is - quirky, young and not expensive. Ok that is technically 4 words but it does mean that you can have a great time in Dalston without breaking the bank. Because of the relatively cheaper property rents, Dalston is now the home to creatives and young professionals. There are loads of young chefs and baristas who are opening up quirky little places and experimenting with new ideas in food.
To orient you, Dalston is in the eastern part of the city and close to Shoreditch, Liverpool Street and Islington. Central London is about 20 minutes away.
To give you an idea of what you can expect in Dalston here is the low down on some of our favourite places!
Tina, we salute you is a great little speciality coffee place. They serve delicious home made cakes all day long. Then there is Cafe Oto. Described by Italian Vogue as the coolest cafe in London, Cafe Oto doesn’t need much more of an explanation! Come here for new music, unusual drinks and a cutting-edge crowd.Oui Madame is a great little slice of Paris. Inspired by the surrealists, they serve great French food.
Dalston is also known for its Vietnamese food. There are loads of original and authentic Vietnamese places in Dalston but the best one if Song Que.
If you are a fan of vintage shopping you will love the flagship store of Beyond Retro which is full of hipster dresses from 1970s to 1990s. Pelicans Parrot is another cool homeware and clothes store.
This is just the start. Once you book I will give you loads more recommendations. So come on what are you waiting for?!
The closest station is Dalston Kingsland. From here you take the London Overground to Highbury and Islington and hop on to the Victoria line which is on the underground. Or you can go all the way to Canada Water and then change to the Jubilee line which is also very convenient if you want to go sight seeing such to places such as Parliament, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace etc.
