Rio Real, one of Marbella’s top residential locations and the site of its first golf course. The little river after which the area is named adds a verdant touch as it flows towards the sea and an expanse of blue flag beaches that mark this eastern part of Marbella’s coastline. Here you will find local chiringuito beach bars (seafood restaurant on the beach), and two of the Costa del Sol’s most exclusive beach clubs: Trocadero Arena and La Cabâne.
The nearby Torre Río Real is a stone watchtower, which forms part of a network of coastal lookouts that were once used to warn against attacks by Barbary Corsairs. Built in 1575, it measures almost 11 metres in height and 22 metres in circumference. This local landmark has been declared a Site of Cultural Heritage as it adds a link to a local history that stretches back past the Moors to the Romans and Phoenicians 3,000 years ago. The properties in this part of the exclusive Los Monteros area, which is amongst the most scenic and appealing in Marbella, mostly consist of luxury villas and exclusive apartment and town-house complexes set against pine-covered hillsides overlooking the golf course and the sea.
Situated just east of Marbella town, this area has everything close at hand whilst offering peace and tranquillity close to the beach and all the amenities of the Marbella area.
Marbella has grown rapidly, becoming a Mediterranean resort town associated with glamour, opulence, celebrity and perhaps the finest climate in Europe.
Today Marbella is a bustling, cosmopolitan town with a modern infrastructure and luxury services aimed at a high-end clientele, yet the authentic charm of Andalucía is never far away, either in the town itself or in the surrounding country villages.
Known above all for its beaches, luxury resort hotels, championship golf courses, racquet clubs, spa and wellness centres, and marinas such as Puerto Banús, this is a region that also supports an active professional population, luxury shopping, a wide variety of sports and an active social and cultural life. The setting, surrounded by sea, green valleys and mountains, adds to the quality of Marbella’s real estate, but it is above all the freedom and quality of life that is valued so highly.
Much is made of the Marbella climate, but what is so sought after is above all the free and outdoor lifestyle that this sunny environment makes possible.
Where some choose the glamour of cocktail parties, trendy beach clubs and heady nightclubs, others focus on sports activities or languid relaxation.
With such a focus on the coast it is often overlooked, but right on Marbella’s doorstep is a world of nature and culture waiting to be discovered – from the natural parks of the Serranía de Ronda and cities such as Granada and Seville to the ski slopes of the Sierra Nevada, the big city excitement of Málaga and the surfers’ paradise of Tarifa.
Puerto Banús is known as Costa del Sol's playground for the rich and wealthy that come here for the beaches, the beach clubs and the buzzing nightlife. The shops and restaurants reflect this expensive lifestyle, with plenty of designer names on offer around the marina. If you enjoy people-watching and are there during the summer months you ll never be short of pop star s, or reality TV stars to spot. If sports cars and big boats are more your thing, don t worry, there are plenty of Ferrari s and luxury yachts to admire.
Fuengirola along the coast towards Malaga (20 minutes by car) offers many up-market tapas bars, like Palangreros or Jean-Christophe Aitelli. It is also attractive during the Fuengirola summer feria, when the whole town takes part in the annual street celebrations. A walk down the narrow, pedestrian streets leading off the main square is a voyage of discovery for the many visitors, who come across some of the hidden secrets and delightful corners of this friendly, Andalucian town. You also find here the Mijas water park and the Fuengirola Zoo just off the motorway for hours of family fun!.
Benalmadena is 30 minutes drive from Rio Real and has a real family feel to it offering lots to do with the family like Sea World in the Puerto Marina, Paloma Park a free to enter nature park with chickens, peacocks and other wildlife wondering around whilst you take a stroll around the lake. Tivoli World a children s amusement park in the centre of Arroyo de la Miel offers rides and restaurants. Benalmadena being split into three very distinct areas:(The old village) Despite the influx of foreigners, the Pueblo has managed to maintain a certain degree of decorum in the midst of the massive amounts of building works and construction. This sleepy village is beautiful with some very nice restaurants like La Cupula Lounge (Live music Friday and Saturday) serving Mediterranean food, Restaurante La Fuente (highly rated Spanish cuisine), La Perla (Traditional Spanish).
Arroyo de la busy commercial town centre separating the village on the hill from the sea front. Arroyo has grown rapidly, due greatly to the excellent train station running between Fuengirola and Malaga, as well as good road connection. An abundance of shops, bars and restaurants.
Benalmadena Costa the coastal area with many hotels, beaches, restaurants and the award winning Marina with excellent port facilities, fantastic nightlife and the fabulous Aquarium, good cafes and restaurants, with chic boutiques and other shops of interest, as well as fabulous beaches makes it the perfect holiday destination. The main square, Plaza de la Constitución, has been re-designed but still retains its unique enchantment.Get the full listing »
