If your interest is tourist, you have chosen the best city !.
The first thing would be to visit our Plaza Mayor and enjoy the color of its stone, which varies according to the brightness of the sun. On the Calle del Prior, see the Renaissance palace of Monterrey (owned by the Duke of Alba) and the Church of the Purísima, where the largest mural of the Virgin, painted by José Ribera, is located. Then, walk along the street of the Company, which owes its name to that in the XVII century, were located the Jesuits, (being the scene of many medieval films) and tourist route and students. There you can also admire the Church of San Benito (search in its low relief the figure of the tuno), the Pontifical University, the Clergy, the House of Shells (which until recently was privately owned by the Junta de Andalucía).
Continuing along the street Libreros (where the Silver Route passed), we arrived at the University (on its façade, try to find the famous "frog" that tradition says, will bring good luck to anyone who finds it.)
At the back of the statue of Fray Luis de Leon, is the Patio of the Major Schools, and leaving to the right, is the Rector's House of Unamúno.
On Calderón de la Barca Street, we end up in the Cathedrals: in the New Cathedral, also look for the astronaut in the bas relief, by the tower of the Old Cathedral we must not stop going up to the New Cathedral to see "IERÓNIMUS".
In front of the Old Cathedral, there is the municipal museum, from where Francisco Franco led the Civil War.
Going down Tentenecio Street, we will see on the left side the Archive of the Civil War, and then there is the entrance of the Museum of the Casa de Lís (Museum of ART NOUVEAU and ART DECO). Following the route, we can see in the background the Tower of the Cock of the Old Cathedral, and to the right, the Garden of Callisto and Melibea, (described in the work of "La Celestina", by Fernanda de Rojas).
Further down, we will find the Cave of Salamanca, where according to tradition, taught the devil ....... and if we keep going down, we arrive at San Pablo Street, where we are surprised by the Convent of San Esteban (busy By the Dominican fathers) where Columbus presented his project of trip to America to Fray Diego de Deza, favorite of Queen Isabella the Catholic. Next to it, the Convent of the Dueñas, and a little further back, the Colegio de Calatrava, founded by the Military Order of the Calatrava.
If you continue down to the river, you can visit the Automotive Museum, and in front of it, the Cross of the Fallen, where condemned people were executed in the Middle Ages. Also we will find the beautiful Roman Bridge, the figure of the Toro without head and the statue of the Lazarillo de Tormes.
All these monuments, are illuminated at night, and offer a very different image of Salamanca that can not be missed.
In the Plaza Mayor is the tourist office, where you can inform and deliver all kinds of brochures. However, upon your arrival, we will give you a map of the city and give you a brief summary of the gastronomic and leisure varieties that the city offers us.
