The neighbourhood : It's a 2 minute direct walk to the beach where you could safely run along the 2.7km promenade to the lighthouse or get your feet wet and stroll in the other direction along the pristine waterline all the way to the lagoon. Have a coffee under the umbrellas, suntan on the sandy beach or pop into the ocean for a swim in the lifeguarded bathing area. Surfers usually choose the break at Bronze Beach which is a short walk along the promenade. Even with 320 days of sunshine a year, there are times when the wind or rain make it a good day to be spoiled at one of our local spas or visit a one of the world-class shopping areas in Umhlanga. There are malls, movies, the Wavehouse, skate park and shops galore. Visit Old Town Italy - a local deli/restaurant with gorgeous European fare. We will show you all the best places to eat out in the evenings. Everything you need is in the village!

A 10 minute drive (or Uber) south takes you to the Durban beachfront with its large waterpark, slides and aquarium as well as a 5.5km long super-wide promenade where you can hire anything from bicycles, tandem bikes, skateboards (free skatepark), go-carts, segways, kayaks or diving gear. Always best to get down there before dawn to exercise or watch the sunrise over the ocean from one of our piers. It's a vibrant area from 5AM with swimmers, runners, paddlers and surfers enjoying the ocean before going to work. If you haven't been to the Durban beachfront lately, give a sunrise visit a try, you will be pleasantly surprised. Enjoy a breakfast overlooking the sea at Surf Riders Food Shack, Afros Chicken, Circus Circus or California Dreaming. Durban has excellent surfing with some of the most consistent surf in the country and a happy, friendly vibe in the water (and no need for a wetsuit for most of the year).
