When you need a good dose of rest and relaxation, Mountain Medicine is the place to stay. Located in Wears Valley, the so-called quiet side of the Smoky Mountains, the 4-bedroom log cabin is set among lush trees in the Cedar Falls Resort, which includes a walking trails and a swimming pool. The surroundings are so serene, you can easily forget that you’re less than a half-hour from the attractions of Pigeon Forge. What’s more, Mountain Medicine has so many amenities, you might prefer simply kicking back at the cabin with family and friends.
Because the cabin can sleep up to 12 people, it’s well suited for a getaway with another family or several couples. Two of the 4 bedrooms include a king-size bed; the 3rd has a nearly as luxurious queen-size bed. The 4th, with a queen-size bed and bunk beds, can serve as the communal kids’ bedroom or can host a family in and of itself. What’s more, one of Mountain Medicine’s sofas converts into an additional bed for 2.
Along with 4 bedrooms, Mountain Medicine has 4 well-appointed bathrooms. The master suite’s bathroom is especially pampering: It includes a jetted tub. Your weary muscles will relish a restorative soak after a day of hiking or horseback riding. But even if you’re in one of the other bedrooms, you can still revel among steamy jets of water, thanks to the large hot tub in the screened-in porch. A soak here provides the added advantage of allowing you to relish the mountain breeze and the songbirds while you luxuriate.
In addition to the screened-in porch, Mountain Medicine boasts a huge covered deck with chairs and 2 porch swings. Whether you head outside early in the morning to watch the sunrise or late at night to marvel at the star-studded sky, relaxation is practically guaranteed.
The great room is another relaxing space. A double-height wall of windows looks out onto the trees and lets in a wealth of sunshine. The wood-planked walls and floor, towering cathedral ceiling, and stone-surround fireplace create a warm, welcoming vibe, as do the roomy armchairs and couches. There’s space for the whole gang to gather and watch a movie on the flat-panel TV with cable, play charades, or simply chat and enjoy each other’s company.
The dining area can seat at least 10 at its large table and adjacent breakfast bars. The kids will especially love sidling up to the breakfast bar and climbing onto the stools that look like saddles. The kitchen, on the other side of the bar, is fully equipped with stainless-steel appliances, plenty of gadgets, cookware, and tableware. The dishwasher will make cleanup a breeze—and while we’re on the subject of conveniences, Mountain Medicine has its own washer and dryer as well.
After dinner, if you don’t want to laze outdoors or in the hot tub, head to the downstairs game room, where you’ll have your choice of shooting pool or playing arcade games. Or you can explore the rest of Cedar Falls Resort. In summer you can swim in the heated pool; year-round there is also a basketball hoop, a playground, a horseshoe pit, a stocked catch-and-release fishing pond, and a picnic pavilion with charcoal grills and a fire pit.
What’s more, Mountain Medicine is just a quick drive to myriad local attractions. Waldens Creek Stables is close enough to walk to, though if you drive you can be there in less than 5 minutes. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is only 20 minutes away, and Dollywood, the Titanic Museum, the Tanger outlet mall, dinner theaters, Gatlinburg Golf Course, and more are less than a half-hour’s drive.
