Seattle’s largest and oldest neighborhood is a unique mix of residential streets and charming commercial hubs filled with colorful consignment shops, restaurants, and bakeries. Spend a day leisurely wandering a shopping district, then head to the water for spectacular views of Puget Sound, the jagged mountains, and an epic sunset with downtown Seattle’s twinkling lights.
Located at the tip of West Seattle and surrounded on three sides by the Puget Sound, North Admiral sits on a high point that overlooks the majestic waters of Elliott Bay. The neighborhood is largely residential, with unique and quirky shops interspersed between eateries and nightlife destinations.
You have to try a light and fluffy brioche loaf or a melt-in-your-mouth macaroon from Bakery Nouveau, a small French bakery known for its tantalizing pastries. Mashiko brings together two Seattle ideals—fresh seafood and sustainability—with its carefully sourced sushi. And Salty’s on Alki Beach is a surf-and-turf staple right along the water.
The West Seattle Junction at California Avenue and Alaska Street has a nice clutch of quirky, chic shops. Browse through an assortment of consignment clothing and accessories at Funky Janes, or stop by The Sneakery to browse its shelves of footwear and funky socks. Easy Street Records has an impressive array of vinyl and CDs for music buffs, plus plenty of friendly staff more than willing to talk tunes.
Don’t miss a walk along Alki Beach Park. A paved pathway is a favorite for joggers, dog-walkers, and in-line skaters, with unbeatable views of shimmering waters and the Seattle skyline. For that perfect picture, be sure to stop by Don Armeni Park, with its boat ramp, to capture the beachy scene. Lincoln Park is another great spot, featuring hiking and walking trails, an outdoor pool, and—of course—spectacular views.
