Imagine a house off-grid and off the beaten track in the middle of wild coastal forest with tropical gardens, an abundance of wild birds and the sun setting directly opposite every day of the year! The Treehouse is perched on top of a cliff with the best views over the Caribbean sea - an oasis of peace and quiet set back from busy, sometimes noisy, Marigot Bay while still being within easy walking distance. A secluded cove great for snorkeling is 10-15 minutes walk down a shady private road.
The Treehouse is designed for maximum enjoyment of the spectacular views over the Caribbean sea and the coastal forest bordering the house. The house consists of two apartments which can be rented separately or together. If you wish to rent the entire house but only use the top area then ask us and we can make you a special price. The large terrace on the top floor is the perfect place for outdoor living with a large dining table and chairs seating six people and comfortable sofa and easy chairs. The view from this terrace is truly breath-taking!
The top floor internal space includes a standard double bed with a Cambodian mosquito net on a frame, ample storage cupboards and a fully equipped kitchen hand crafted from recycled wood. Kitchen appliances include a four hob gas stove and oven, fridge with ice box, kettle, blender, coffee machine and toaster. There are also two barbecues available for use outside.
The compact bathroom on the top floor has double hand basins with storage cabinets and a WC while there are three outdoor showers: one close to the house with heated water, another spectacularly located over the cliff among the trees which are home to native orchids and a third just below the sundeck made from recycled sign boards and old wood off-cuts from former kitchen cabinets and home to many air plants and giant tropical flowers. All are totally private.
The lower floor of the Treehouse comprises an open plan room with a standard double bed (an additional folding bed can be provided for a small daily supplement), a mosquito net on a frame, easy chair, ample storage and hanging cupboards and fully equipped kitchen (four ring gas hob and oven, blender, kettle, coffee machine and toaster). A table and chairs are located on the balcony which has beautiful views over the terraced gardens with their trees full of birds to the sea beyond.
The bathroom on the ground floor includes an indoor shower (heated water) with a shower curtain made from handmade fishing nets given to us by the fishermen on the beach below, WC and hand basin with storage cabinet.
An elevated walkway from the balcony on the lower floor crosses above the terraced garden to the sundeck with its sunloungers, umbrella, table and chairs and once again amazing sea views.
All our power is solar power provided from the solar panels on our house at the top of the plot. In addition, all the water is our own harvested rainwater, double filtered, pure and safer to drink than bottled water (which contains leached plastic pollutants) and tap water. The water in two of the showers is heated while the remaining two showers use water from the rainwater tanks which is at ambient temperature - it is always warm here and most guests do not even use the hot water as they find it too hot!
We deliberately do not have a pool as we are surrounded by beautiful beaches and the dangers of swimming in chemicals such as chlorine (which even salt water pools generate) are now well known, particularly for people with allergies or sensitive skin. The snorkelling and swimming around us is so wonderful and the sea is so full of life that we prefer to swim there. If we get hot we enjoy a cooling shower on the cliff face surrounded by tropical birds and plants or we take a dip in the bay - chemical free!
This is a new listing (and therefore has no reviews yet) however we are Airbnb Superhosts and have two other listings on Airbnb. We only have five star reviews which you can check out so you can book the Treehouse with the confidence that we will give you our normal high quality welcome and service!
Pablo and I are committed environmentalists and our passion for nature drives everything we do. Unlike other guest houses we never use pesticides or insecticides but work with natural pest solutions. A network of 15 fishpools provide an environmental solution to prevent mosquitoes breeding as the fish eat any mosquito larvae and therefore drastically reduce the mosquito population - this is in direct contrast to the common local practice of fogging for mosquitos with a spray made of neurotoxins.
Using our experience, we provide advice to local hotels to help them reduce their impact on the environment and conserve resources such as energy and water. We have planted our garden to encourage birds and other wildlife onto our plot and we have left two thirds of our large property wild as a wildlife sanctuary. We are also planting many native plants in our plot which have been rescued from development areas in order to protect them from extinction.
We love using driftwood, corals, shells and other items collected from the beaches around the house. We are also making our own glasses from bottles recycled from our guests! We plan soon to make our own plates and bowls from local coconuts and calabash, as the local people do. We also use old coffee or potato sacks for the uphostery in the house and have used old coffee sacks as sunshades on the main terrace. While looking absolutely beautiful they also give a lovely light.
We have inherited a commercial ice cream maker and as Pablo loves ice cream we always have a selection of homemade ice creams available which we invite guests to share if they wish. We just ask a small fee to cover ingredient costs and work on an honesty box principle where you settle for what you have consumed when you leave. They have proved very popular!
We have a family of three black labradors who live with us and who love visitors as well as a family of four goats who keep the grass down along the roadside - so much nicer than using a strimmer!
We work with two local Saint Lucians and we have designed with them a series of land and sea tours which are not on any tourist "programme". These are focused on local experiences and off the beaten track adventures.
We can arrange for you to have a barbecue down on the beach below the house where a local called Kilim can cook for you upon request. You can drive (4x4 only), swim or kayak round to this beach.
A local Saint Lucian masseuse is happy to come to the house with her couch, towels, oils etc to provide guests with a home massage and we have a special agreement with the watersports shop in Marigot Bay for the hire of watersports equipment - a special package has been agreed for our guests. All of these experiences are arranged directly with local people, not tour agents, and are described in the information sheet which we send out to our guests once they have booked with us.
Also available for hire if you book it early enough is our spare car, a small 4x4 Suzuki Jimny which is ideal for the road conditions here. Let us know if you want more details.Get the full listing »
