You’ll have the best of mountain cabin vacation experiences when you stay in Brother Bear in Ruidoso, New Mexico. The cabin is tucked away in a woodsy setting, but it’s still within walking distance of restaurants, galleries, a coffee shop and grocery store so you’re never far from the fun!
Brother Bear is a one-bedroom, one-bathroom two-story cabin that can sleep five when the single sleeper sofa is used as a bed for one guest. When you drive up to Brother Bear, you’ll immediately notice the solid log craftsmanship and the beautiful wrap-around porch with picnic table. Like all the cabins in Apache Village, a master craftsman built Brother Bear in the post-war 1940s. He had great pride in his workmanship and the Village has worked hard to maintain the unique touches and fine detail of the builder’s work. Modern upgrades have been added through the years, but the original beauty is still well preserved for your enjoyment.
Walk through the front door into an open concept living room, kitchen and dining area. A vaulted ceiling gives the room an open, airy feel. You’ll love the log pillars and branch railing along with the knotty pine walls. Grab a seat on the couch to watch the wall-mounted flat-screen TV with cable. If you want a snack, the kitchen is just across the room, and there’s a dining table close by that’s perfect for a game of Monopoly, Uno or Bridge.
For meals, you have a plethora of options. You can walk down to the nearby restaurants or drive a little further into Ruidoso where you’ll find even more dining and entertainment options. You also have a well-equipped kitchen at your disposal with stove and oven, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, cookware and serving ware. You can eat around the dining table at the edge of the kitchen or, better yet, take your food outdoors to enjoy around the picnic table on the wrap-around covered porch. The pine-scented air smells so good and will make all of your meals taste that much better.
After a day of fishing, golfing, watching the horse races or riding the zip-line, you’ll be ready to head up the beautifully crafted log and limb staircase to the bedroom.
The Brother Bear bedroom is outfitted with two queen-sized beds and a nightstand. Large log supports give the room great character and when you open the window you can wake up to the sound of birds singing in the Ponderosa Pines.
The spacious bathroom is on the first floor. You’ll appreciate the lengthy vanity with its vessel sink, which makes it easy to spread out your stuff and get ready each morning. There’s also a shower/tub combination great for bathing young kids as well as adults who prefer a warm shower.
Brother Bear is one of six cabins that make up the Bear Mountain Lodge Group within Apache Village. If you are traveling with a larger group, you can also rent other cabins in the Bear Mountain Lodge Group that includes: Brother Bear (one bedroom), Dancing Bear (two bedrooms), Sleeping Bear (two bedrooms), Bear Bones (two bedrooms), Bear Den (three bedrooms) and Big Bear (three bedrooms).
