Top 3 Ways to Reduce Your Energy Bill and Save Costs

We are all trying to save money these days, and most Americans don’t realize how much money they are wasting on energy costs. Here are some easy tips to keep your utility costs down and save money each month.

1- Replace high-energy appliances and light bulbs

Inefficient products can make up a large percentage of your home’s energy usage. In order to save energy consumption on lighting, replace your incandescent blubs with energy-efficient compact fluorescent (CFL) blubs. These light bulbs use much less energy and last years longer than incandescent bulbs. Replace old appliances like refrigerators, washers and dryers with new, energy efficient ones.

2- Use it or lose it

Remember to switch off anything that you aren’t using. Turn off the lights when you leave a room. Same thing goes for the television, stereo, computer or other electronic devices. Unless you will be going back to it shortly, switch it off. Leaving lights or electronics on that you don’t need is a waste of energy – and money.

3- Unplug it

Appliances and electronics that aren’t turned on can still use up energy if they are plugged in. Common culprits are computers, small appliances, televisions, stereos and other items that usually stay plugged in. To make it easier to keep them off (and keep them from sucking energy) when not being used, plug them into a power strip that can be turned off. Unplug them or switch off the power strip when you are gone during the day and while you sleep.

These tips combined with a competitive-cost energy provider like Great American Power can really make a difference on your monthly bill. Contact us today for more information on how we can provide your energy needs at the lowest cost possible.
