Right in front of the house is the wildly romantic Gralha da Praia, which is just 10 minutes away on foot. Almost your own private beach, because there are very few swimmers visiting even in high summer. With the enclosed rocky bay, the beach is great even on windy days as well as not so mild days.
Especially for children the popular natural bay of Sao Martinho do Porto is ideal. Either you opt for a 20-minute walk or pack your bathing suit at once in your car. The lively bay in summer with its cafés, restaurants and shops offers bathing fun for the whole family - even very small kids can splash around in the gentle waves happily.
On one of the most beautiful coastal roads in the country, Rua da Pescaria, you can reach the vast Praia do Salgado in approximately 5 km, which has an enchanting view of Nazaré. The kilometre-long sandy beach, where you can always find a lonely place even in the summer months, is as popular among the Lisbon tourists as it is among tourists from all over the world, who love something special. If you like something closer to the town, you also have the Praia da Nazaré, located directly on the waterfront, available for swimming fun and a cool drink in one of the beach bars.
On the opposite side of Sao Martinho bay there is a 10 km long coastal road with breathtaking view of Foz do Arelho. For surfers and paragliders and also for families from children to elder persons one can enjoy beautiful, simple beach life. In the hot waters of the lagoon nearby you can swim carefree without high waves and relax in the surrounding bars and cafés.
Culture and colourful hustle and bustle
In Sao Martinho do Porto you can take a wonderful stroll, have a drink in Rua dos Cafés and dine first-class in one of the numerous restaurants. The daily market - within 15 minutes walking distance from the house - provides everything fresh and cheap for self-catering. A large supermarket on the outskirts is perfect for a shopping spree. On the bay along the sea there is a boardwalk that goes up to Salir do Porto or you can use the lift to the upper town, which brings you close to the original location.
The driving time to the preserved and well-kept medieval town of Obidós is only around 20 minutes and is always worth a trip. Cosy bars, fado songs and colourful hustle and bustle along the many small alleys will enchant you.
Nazaré stretches directly up to Praia do Salgado, divided into an upper and lower town at the cliff slope. The Moroccan architecture, fishing women in black dresses, shops, narrow alleys and public places, from where you can see the sunset in the evening, contribute to a real holiday feeling.
Experience pure culture in Alcobaca with a monastery, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. A visit to the unique church and Crusader Castle of Tomar leads you to the former significant centre of the Templars. Coimbra, the oldest university city of Portugal, Lisbon with its seven hills or the Shrine of Fatima - all of this and much more options are there practically at your doorstep.
