CASA RAMALHETE is a three-bedroom linked villa within the Porto do Paraiso complex, a collection of 11 townhouses and 2 apartments with a shared pool and gardens.
There is a keysafe on the front door, details on how to use will be sent with final arrangements.
Airport pick-ups and drop-offs are also available on request. The journey time from Faro Airport is approximately one hour.
There is a large LCD TV with limited Freeview channels plus free WiFi is available so you can bring your own equipment to access TV via the internet. Unfortunately the signal is not strong enough to work throughout the building but it is accessible on the sun terrace.
Twin sliding patio doors lead to your own large roof terrace, with luxury outdoor furniture for alfresco dining, a barbecue and sun loungers to soak up the sun. From here stairs lead down to the pool area shared with the other villas.
The modern fitted wood effect built-in units and granite worktops in the fully equipped kitchen means all you need to do is stock up with food! Including a table and chairs for those more informal meals, thereâ€™s a gas/electric cooker, refrigerator, dishwasher, washing machine, microwave and a brand new gas heater for instant hot water.
Thereâ€™s also a walk-in pantry providing plenty of storage space including a cupboard for all the cleaning equipment and iron & ironing board, and a separate drinks fridge for water and any other drinks as required!
Also leading off the hall there is a small downstairs cloakroom with toilet and basin.
The living room also has air conditioning, which cools in the hot months and is a gas fire in the winter.
Upstairs, there is one double room with 2 x 90cm beds that zip together to form a Super King-size double bed with hotel style headboard and twin bedside tables. All bedrooms are air conditioned. There are fitted wardrobes with a digital safe to secure belongings, a dressing table and an en-suite bathroom with bath and shower-over, toilet and bidet, with a towel radiator and wall heater for the cooler months. Thereâ€™s also a Juliette balcony overlooking your roof sun terrace and the pool area.
The two further twin bedrooms have fitted wardrobes (with plenty of hangers), dressing table, bedside tables and lamps. There are plenty of sockets for charging mobile phones and using hairdryers etc, and there are mirrors near sockets to check hairstyles and make-up!
There is family bathroom with bath and shower over, toilet & bidet, towel radiator and wall heater. There are fans in each room for those warmer nights and heaters for the winter in the bedrooms and bathrooms. Hairdryers are available.
While linen will be changed weekly free of charge, a weekly cleaning service is available at an extra cost if required. A vacuum cleaner and cleaning equipment are available in the walk-in pantry.
There are beach umbrellas available in the apartment to use around the pool and boogie boards & other beach equipment for use on the beach only.
Luz is a small village, with a selection of shops. The main Baptista Supermarket is open 7 days a week (closed Sun afternoon) and there are more supermarkets around the village. Baptista also has a delicatessen offering home-made pies, pastries and pizzas and a selection of fresh fruit, vegetables, and seafood as well as jams, olives and sweets. There are several larger supermarkets in Lagos, a 10-minute car journey away including a Lidl and Aldi.
Praia Da Luz is an ideal holiday destination, the charming and picturesque streets of the old town are a delight. It is a 10-minute walk along lovely cobbled streets to the old village centre of Praia Da Luz and the many restaurants, bars and internet cafe. You will be spoilt for choice.
Visit the historic Fortress (the Forteleza)which dates back to 1670. Today, it has been fully restored and operates as a premier restaurant offering traditional Portuguese classics with an international bias, in what is unquestionably the villageâ€™s most spectacular setting.
On Sunday enjoy Jazz lunches in the garden bar, sipping your Sangria overlooking the Rua da Calheta, a small cove below the Forteleza walls and listening to the local jazz band playing many favourite tunes.
A must-see is the medieval Church of Nossa Senhora da Luz, Praia da Luz (dedicated to â€˜Our Lady of Lightâ€™) which was built around 1521, and recently fully restored and painted. Remember to view the inside and see the spectacular golden gilt altar.
Praia de Igreja da Nossa Senhora da Luz, (â€˜Beach of the Church of our Lady of Lightâ€™) â€“ far too much for a tourist (and many locals) and shortened to Praia da Luz â€“ is a lovely sandy beach in the shape of a bay; it is a very safe beach with a gently shelving beach. It can be quite popular in the height of summer near the centre but walk a short distance along the beach towards black rock and you will have the beach much to yourself. There are many excellent restaurants and little is ever going to change the unique attraction of Praia da Luz with its quaint two floor Luz Bay Cottages and narrow roads lined with oleander, hibiscus and bougainvillea.
Beach Hut Watersports, Praia da Luz â€“ Based on the main beach in Praia da Luz and operating since 1988, â€˜BEACH HUT watersportsâ€™ is a company dedicated to boat tours and water sports for all the family including Kidâ€˜s Days and Bird Watching.
By the beach ramp, you can watch the sand sculptors carve out their shapes in the sand; drop a small amount of change in their â€˜hatâ€™ and they wonâ€™t mind you photographing the finished results!
You can also get a massage on the beach â€“ either in privacy if it is a full massage or open to the breeze if just a back massage!
There is a small sandy cove tucked under the western side of the Fort (Forteleza Restaurant). The small fishing boats still go out every night from this beach and return with their catch at dawn. This beach is also popular with snorkellers. You can also collect fossils on this beach at low tide!
Like most beach holiday resorts, business is seasonal in Praia da Luz. Nearly all the restaurants and bars run their own timetables as to when they change opening and closing times. During the busy season it is advisable to pre-book a table. From November through to March some places may close completely or have drastically reduced opening days and/or hours.
Tipping/Gratuities: Generally 10 â€“ 15%. Make sure you check whether a service charge has already been included in your bill as some restaurants have started to adopt this practice. You may wish to modify any â€˜tipâ€™ as a result.
