A couple of hints for your stay in our luxury beach houses in Wijk aan Zee:
The cosy Wijk aan Zee has a central position in the Noord-Holland province. It is a 30-minute drive to the enjoyable cheese city of Alkmaar. There are a lot of old buildings (400 monuments), city canals and countless shops.
Alkmaar is above all Holland's number one cheese city. During the high season, from the first Friday of April until the first Friday of September, there is a traditional cheese market: every Friday morning from 10am until 12.30pm.
Apart from this, Alkmaar also is a fun city for going out. There is a range of all kinds of restaurants, terraces and bars, but also theatres and museums. Numerous events are being organised, such as Culinair Plaza and the Jazz & Muziekweekend.
Haarlem is also within a 30-minute drive. It is has one of the most vibrant ambiences of any city in the Netherlands: plenty of art and culture, monuments, cosy restaurants and bars. Its numerous shops, including a number of boutiques, also make it a lovely shopping city.
Haarlem is well known for its vivid culinary life. It is the city with the second-most bars and restaurants in the Netherlands, behind Maastricht. Haarlem caters to all tastes: from trendy coffee bars and exquisite lunch rooms to cosy cafés and one-of-a-kind restaurants: all from simple to exclusive. But enjoying good food and drinks is also possible during 'Haarlem Culinair', because at this annual event, held in August, several restaurants present themselves to the public.
At about the same distance lies Amsterdam, with its almost infinite possibilities. Another possibility for reaching Amsterdam is from IJmuiden, by hydrofoil. Highly recommended! The boat makes a spectacularly fast trip on the water.
Of course Amsterdam is known for its culture, represented by museums such as the Anne Frank House, the Van Gogh Museum, the Rijksmuseum etc. Amsterdam is -of course- also very suitable for real shopaholics.
When looking for a night out opportunity, Amsterdam is the place to be: you will be spoiled for choice among the many restaurants, bars, cafés and clubs!
During weekends you can visit the Oriental Market and the Black Market in the Beverwijk Bazaar. This very well-known market has a lot of Asian exhibitors, who have an enormous variety of products to offer.
