**High Season (July and August) are 7-night rentals**
Do you become nostalgic when you reminisce over special times with your grandparents, sibs or childhood friends at the beach on the Outer Banks? This traditional four-bedroom cottage - just a 200-yard walk from the beach is for you! Mrs. Jamie Parker's family has enjoyed the Cottage since she purchased it in 1960. Recreate the past and create new memories. We have opened the opportunity to you.
The Cottage's classic 1955 interior is wrapped with solid pine walls and ceilings. The furnishings, lamps, and artwork have changed little over the decades. Four cozy bedrooms (two queen, two double), two baths, and an eat-in kitchen encircle a comfortable living room (40" TV, WI-fi, Netflix) with a decorative hearth. A bright sun porch offers a pleasant place to read, play cards, or sip refreshments in the afternoon or on a rainy day. The backyard deck provides a quiet relaxing spot to drink your morning coffee or sip your evening wine. The expansive yard provides space for privacy and an area to play games. A carport accommodates one vehicle, and a driveway fits two more. A wood charcoal grill is available for your use. The Cottage is located close to the beach - just around the corner from the Forrest Road Beach Access - and in a pleasant, quiet, residential neighborhood.
The kitchen is equipped with an electric range, refrigerator, and microwave, although it lacks a dishwasher, hence, dish-washing becomes a shared experience and opportunity to bond. There is a 12-cup coffee pot, coffee grinder, toaster, and electric can opener. The cupboards are filled with dishes, glasses, coffee mugs, pots and pans, bake ware and flatware. Dish soap, clothes, towels, and paper towels are available.
Each bedroom has a chest of drawers and closet. Upon your arrival the beds are ready with clean sheets and pillowcases. The bathrooms are set with towels, washcloths, plenty of toilet paper, and a box of tissues. Amenities like shampoo, bar soap, or hairdryer are not provided. A washing machine and dryer along with detergent are available on the sun porch. Wifi is available throughout the cottage. A spigot and garden hose are hooked up on the carport to wash sand off pets or your feet before reentering the cottage. Old bath towels are beneath the kitchen sink to dry your pup.
The Cottage's location is one of its best attributes. It is situated on East Lakeside between Virginia Dare Trail (The Beach Road) and Croatan Highway at Mile Marker 15.5. It lends easy access to a multitude of destinations by foot, bicycle, or car. The beach is a short walk (200 yards), Scammel's ice cream and surf shop is around one corner and Forbes Candy around the other. Do you recall "the ol' nag" that you climbed at Forbes? An easy destination by foot is Jennette's Pier one mile south, or you can walk four miles north to Nags Head Fishing Pier. If you walk west, Roanoke Sound is less than half a mile on West Lakeside.
For those who like to explore, kayak, fish, bicycle, boat, and so on, you can easily reach Bodie Lighthouse (8.2m), Pea Island National Wildlife Refuge (16m), and the Alligator River National Refuge (9.5m kayak, bicycle, hike). For those who dive, numerous shipwrecks lay along the coast. Do you fish? Walk to the shore or charter a boat from Oregon Inlet (9m). Historic delightful Manteo (4m) on Roanoke Island is a pleasant destination. This proud community hosts the Pioneer Theater ("Lost Colony"), The Elizabethan Gardens, and a lovely waterfront where you can take lunch or dinner. The 16th century sailing vessel Elizabeth II awaits your tour. The North Carolina Aquarium on Roanoke Island is another opportunity.
Local shops, galleries, restaurants, and coffee shops abound north to Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Duck and Corolla and the Currituck Beach Lighthouse; and, south along Hatteras Island through Rodanthe, Waves, and Salvo and by ferry onto Ocracoke Island. There are endless ways to spend your time in the Outer Banks and its environs. When you stay at the Parker Cottage you always have the comfort of home that awaits your return.
We welcome you and look forward to being your hosts.Get the full listing »
