Our indoor restaurant, The Cafe, is new while The Cove seafood market and "eat in the rough" Clam Shack have been a Route 1 favorite destination for over forty years. Today the Clam Shack provides dine-in and take-out food all year long while our market features fresh fish and prepared specials for cooking at home. The March 2008 Esquire magazine included The Cove's Fried Cod Sandwich on their "coast - to - coast list of the finest meals on sliced bread." At the Cove Fresh Fish Market we trim and prepare the fish which enables us to assure freshness.
We buy local seafood every morning straight from the Stonington dock. We have sold over 1 million servings of our award winning clam chowder. Our lobster salad roll has the best price per portion value in our area bar none! Bring the family today and enjoy a great meal at one of our 40 picnic tables or indoors at our new cafe!
In 1964, Paul Barber and two partners bought 2/3rds of an acre of land, east of the village of Mystic on Old Stonington Road, and with the help of a local carpenter built a fresh fish market. Paul opened The Cove Fish Market with the goal of providing the highest quality, local fish and seafood. Today, 43 years after its launch The Cove has become a Stonington institution.
In the early 80’s, an article "Making the Most of Mystic" in the New York Times, recommended "The best place in Mystic to buy seafood from the boat is The Cove." This reputation for the finest quality fish continues with new owners Zachary and Andrew Kowal.
Our catered Clam Bakes will WOW your group. We start with our award wining chowder and follow with premium sized lobsters, steamers, local corn on the cob, baby potatoes, grilled chicken and ethnic sausages.
Party catering favorites include native flounder stuffed with crabmeat and baked stuffed lobsters. Call Andrew for help in planning a memorable menu!
