Baksas Artysta is the artistic collective of Kristina Brown and Kimberly L. Cecchini. Kristina and Kimberly first met during an art course at Rutgers. After much time spent together in art courses, studios, and labs, they developed a friendship and even were roommates. After their respective graduations with degrees in the visual arts, both women entered careers outside the artistic realm; Kristina became a fundraising associate and graphic designer and Kimberly became a special education teacher. They did continue to create art in their spare time, but neither sought many formal outlets for their work. Recently, Kristina and Kimberly decided to make a concerted effort to expand and formalize their artistic endeavors and such was the birth of their partnership, Bakas Artysta, in the spring of 2006. Kristina chose the name Bakas Artysta to represent aspects of her and Kimberly's different backgrounds. Bakas means print in Tagalog and Artysta translates as artist in Polish.
