This is an architecturally sophisticated home designed to exude a sense of peace. The interiors were designed by Casa Midy, who also provided much of the furnishings. The roof garden and the house was influenced by famed Mexican architect Luis Barragan. The house is like a gallery containing a collection of art from around the world.
The front door opens to a corridor that leads to a large living space with a courtyard beyond. This area features a large skylight over a granite table and leather chairs. The focal point of the living room is the round gas fireplace that is surrounded by two designer couches and two Knoll chairs. The Fostex studio monitor speakers provide an amazing stereo experience for listening to your music! Just plug in your iPod.
The central courtyard and the many skylights are the major sources of light, making the interior bright and inviting.The home is split into two areas connect by a long art filled corridor running the length of the courtyard. A wall of French doors runs along the length where the fountain, pond and millstone are located. Tables and chairs are situated on this terrace for the enjoyment of breakfast, lunch and drinks.
The back of the home opens to a large family area and the dining room. This living space has a satellite TV. Dividing the living/dinning space is an organic circle of rocks that forms the gas fireplace. The dinning room has a designer's mirrored table and seats 8-10.
The fully equipped kitchen, with granite counters and stainless steel appliances, lies behind the dinning room.
The kitchen is supplied with a bounty of dishes, cutlery, and glasses. To the side of the kitchen is the pantry and laundry area. The house is equipped with a dishwasher, and washing and drying machines.
Each of the 3 bedrooms are en-suite and have gas fireplaces. The beds are of high quality and all have imported fine linens. Each bedroom has access to courtyard space, affording them a sense of privacy. All the bedrooms have closet space and are bright and airy.
The en-suite master bedroom is located on the ground floor and has a king size Tempera bed, a change room and walk in closet. One totally glass wall overlooks the water feature giving access to the lower courtyard.
The second en- suite bedroom has it's own private stairwell that enters into a sitting area with a Knoll chaise lounge. This room has a Juliette balcony that overlooks the street. Bonus bedroom: connect off this bedroom through the en-suite or the sitting area is a small bedroom with a single bed perfect for a child or storing luggage.
The third en-suite bedroom is located on the second floor, at the back of the large courtyard. This is a new room and contains a queen bed, a TV and a double closet. Above this bedroom is a viewing platform perfect for watching the sunset, having a drink or reading a book.
The long open roof garden is strongly influenced by Luis Barragan, with its high walls that open to the sky. The home was designed to radiate a sense of calm and tranquility. This outdoor courtyard/garden is divide into two areas joined by a walkway that connects the two bedrooms.
An outdoor kitchen/BBQ and outdoor dinning area are located on the roof garden which has potted lemon, line and orange trees and lavender plants.
Casa Refugio is equipped with a stereo system, two satellite TVs, a VCR, water filtration system throughout, security camera outside, a Vonage phone for free calls to call to Canada and the USA, a second local phone, and wifi in the front area of the house.
A housekeeper is provided five and a half days a weeks. She will take care of your laundry and if you provide her with money for provisions she will gladly prepare your
