SIGHTSEEING: We are happy to give you recommendations of things to see. Some of our favorite things to do (besides the obvious Elvis/Beale St. things):
•Memphis Zoo: We have one of the best zoos in the country. The panda habitat is awesome!
•Mud Island River Park: You can walk along an exact scale model of the Mississippi River in a park-like setting with beautiful views of the real Mississippi River right beside you.
•National Civil Rights Museum: Located in the hotel where Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated, this exhibit can be painful to witness, but a must-see for anyone wanting to truly understand the history and struggles of the Southern United States. Please note: the museum is closed on Tuesdays.
Stax Museum of American Soul- Located on the original site of the Stax Records studio, pays special tribute to the artists who recorded there, as well as other American soul legends, with a rare and amazing collection of more than 2,000 artifacts, interactive exhibits, films and galleries.
•Levitt Shell: Great venue that hosts over 50 free concerts per year. Recognized as the site of Elvis Presley's first professional rock-n-roll show. Located in Overton Park near the zoo.
•Pub-Crawling in Midtown: There are tons of really cool dive bars and low-key music venues around the Midtown area. Let us know what you are looking for and we are happy to point you in the right direction. Also, pick up a Memphis Flyer magazine to see a full listing. I will have a guidebook printed out and sitting inside for you to see lots more that Memphis has to offer.
