Relax and enjoy the north woods of Wisconsin from your private two bedroom retreat offering a full bath, screened in porch and complete kitchen. This cute, year round cabin is the perfect place for relaxing. Whether you spend time watching the river flow by, stargazing on crystal clear nights, entertaining friends around a campfire, or taking on more strenuous activities like skiing, snowshoeing, canoeing, trout fishing, hiking, and berry picking, this 900 sq. ft. cabin provides a comforting retreat from hectic day-to-day life.
The cabin’s simple layout combines the 16×12 living room with the 15×12 kitchen & dining area. There are 2 carpeted bedrooms and a full bath. The 16×10, 3-season porch adds more living space from spring through fall, including delightful "overflow" sleeping quarters.
There are 2.8 acres, green & lush as can be with maples, birches, and conifers! The yard gently slopes down to the river. The shoreline access is open, so you won’t have to struggle to launch your canoe or kayak. Wading is good here, too, for kids or anglers on this DNR-designated trout stream.
Just across the road from the cabin is the main trailhead for cross-country skiing and hiking in the 396-acre Lincoln Community Forest. The Lincoln Community Forest was established in 2012 with funding from the US Forest Service and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources. The Friends of the Lincoln Community Forest, a local non-profit group, maintain the land, and the Bayfield Regional Conservancy, a non-profit land trust, permanently protects this special resource.
The Lincoln Community Forest is open to hunting, fishing, non-motorized trail use, and trapping. It features 3.5 miles of trails, including 1.5 miles of out-and-back trail groomed for skiing in the winter by a neighbor, as well as two miles of river frontage, a 19-acre seepage lake and wetland, a diverse mix of hardwood and conifer forest, and rugged bluff-and-valley terrain. Forest access is free for all users.
The cabin is also close to many popular recreation spots and hidden gems in and around the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest. Nearby highlights include Morgan Falls/St. Peter's Dome, the Marengo River Nonmotorized Area, Porcupine Lake Wilderness, Rainbow Lakes Wilderness, Copper Falls State Park, Lake Namekagon, and the Drummond, Rock Lake, and Telemark XC ski and bike trail systems.
Spend a day (or five!) hiking through wilderness on the North Country National Scenic Trail, or head half an hour's drive north to relax in the cool breeze of Chequamegon Bay and take in the shops and restaurants in Ashland, the closest big town with all the services and home to the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center. Another 35 minutes takes you to Bayfield, the Madeline Island ferry, and the gateway to the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore.
There is no cell service or internet at the cabin. There is public WiFi at Four Corners Saloon, about a 15 minute drive.
Directions: From Drummond go north on Hwy 63 about 9 mi. to Dybedal Rd. Right to Altamont Rd. Right about 4 mi. to Marengo River Rd. Left to property on left.
