NEW rental for those looking for an “off the beaten path” experience on a car-accessible island on a mid-coast lake. Leave your worries behind as you drive down a 1.6-mile well-maintained private dirt road, guide your vehicle over a bit of water, and arrive at a spectacular 6-acre oasis with 1775’ of lake shoreline. The expansive front yard overlooks Stevens Pond, and the secluded, wooded setting offers a spectacular three-sided lake view, a sandy soil private beach with seating and a large picnic table. Remote…yet still with close access to coastal towns Belfast, Camden and Rockland. This island escape ensures a relaxing retreat for small families or several couples.
*Note there are TWO buildings on the 6 acre property: a modern 3-bedroom chalet (the seasonal rental) and a sizable detached garage with 1-bedroom studio (the owner’s seasonal living quarters (not the rental)). There are typically at least 1-2 adults/owners and 2 dogs on the property.
The chalet has a spacious deck on three sides, all with lake views. There is a sizeable lawn with outdoor furniture, outsized picnic table, hammock, and a propane fire pit for you to enjoy clear, starry nights. A wide path and short walk take you to an open space with shallow water access and a dock for swimming, kayaking, fishing and just plain relaxing. Enjoy the various sit in, sit on and tandem kayaks provided for a day (or moonlight) excursion exploring Stevens Pond. There is an additional dock on the 1775’ lake frontage, as well as a secluded trail for nature walks. Please note that some areas of the lake frontage has a very steep incline, specifically right in front of the chalet. This, therefore, may not be an optimal location for families with toddlers and young children.
1st Floor Bedroom: (2) Twin Beds | 2nd Floor Lake Side Bedroom: Queen Bed | 2nd Floor Bedroom Woods Side: Queen Bed & Twin Bed
The chalet is accessible with a keyless entry from the wrap-around deck, opening into the kitchen area, which is spacious and well equipped with plenty of storage and counter space. There is a rustic style high top counter at the entry where you will find useful information on the chalet, and what to see and do in the area (daytrips, breweries, restaurants). The first floor has an open layout joining the living room, dining area and kitchen as one. The lake can be seen from these spaces through large windows and two sliding doors leading to the deck. Furnishings were chosen for your comfort and include a flat screen tv, selection of games and a large table to gather around to share your meals or just to sit and unwind after a day spent exploring. Also on the first floor is a cozy bedroom, with two twin beds, and full bathroom with bath/shower.
Upstairs, on the 2nd floor is a sizable lakeside bedroom, with a queen bed, sitting area and exterior balcony overlooking the lawn and provides gorgeous views of the lake. A second spacious bedroom, with queen and twin beds, has a view of the interior woods. In between these two bedrooms is a half bath for convenience.
The Lake and Location
Stevens Pond covers 336 acres and has oodles of “nooks and crannies” to explore. It’s a major headwater of the scenic St. George River. Habitat conditions are ideal for a variety of warmwater fish species, including largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, white perch and chain pickerel. Although there is a public boat launch located off of nearby Route 173, boats are limited to 10 horsepower motors, so the lake is generally peaceful. You may even have it all to yourselves depending on the time of day and year. You will certainly hear the exquisite and haunting cry of a loon or two.
The nearby town of Liberty, Maine is very small (population less than 1,000 and not even one stoplight) yet has charm and several required destinations such as the Liberty Tool Company, John’s Ice Cream, Lori’s Café, and not one, but two craft breweries!
So please, you won’t be bored to tears on a remote island! No matter the season, there is plenty of outdoor adventure and sightseeing to experience in the surrounding area. All of the wonders of mid-coast Maine are just a quick drive up or down the scenic coastline! In fact, with a tankful of gas, ALL of coastal Maine is at your disposal.Get the full listing »
