Only 3 Blocks to the beach and located in prestigous La Jolla Shores is this eclectic well maintained home featuring a fenced yard with hottub and fruit trees, original fir floors, lots of sun and more!
My parents built this home for my grandmother in 1954. She was an avid gardner and there are still plants and trees growing in the yard which she placed there. After a day spent at beautiful La Jolla Shores beach (just 3 blocks away) the backyard feels like an oasis.
If you need to plug into the tech world of “Sonos” or “Alexa”, or if you need “over the top” luxury please look elsewhere. There’s wi-fi and one TV with cable—that’s about it. (Although there are modern appliances in the fully equipped kitchen and a dishwasher and washer/dryer.)
But if you’re looking for an authentic, original, California beach cottage—you’d search a long time to find anything better.
My father built the cabinets in the kitchen. The counter tops are mahogany—same as a vintage sailboat. The floors are fir—tongue and groove—so they creak some. The siding is California redwood. None of these materials are available today.
The cottage is just 750 sf. with 1 bedroom and 1 bath but also has a sleeping porch with a trundle bed. Off street parking is provided.
The location in the Shores has accurately been described as perfect. You’re close to the beach but away from the crowds and noise. I’ve provided beach towels, umbrellas, beach chairs and plenty of play toys for the young ones. La Jolla Shores is probably the best family friendly beach on the west coast—maybe in the country.
A block away, Avenida de la Playa has shopping, excellent restaurants and a relaxed beach vibe. You can rent bikes or take guided kayak tours from there.
Downtown La Jolla village—about 2 miles away—has excellent shopping, museums, restaurants and the world famous La Jolla Cove. Take the city bus from the corner and avoid the parking.
The house has fully fenced yards front and back. Quiet, well behaved dogs are welcome.
There’s a hot tub, and an outdoor shower—perfect for relaxing after a day at the beach.
Nearby is the remarkable Birch Aquarium on the Scripps-UCSD Campus. For the golfing crowd, Torrey Pines is just a bit farther north. For theatre, there’s La Jolla Playhouse.
San Diego’s beautiful Balboa Park, the Zoo, the Wild Animal park, Sea World, Little Italy and Legoland are half day excursions.
Further afield—about 3 hours—are Palm Springs or Los Angeles.
(But when you’re here you really won’t want to leave.)
