Just a stone's throw from Custer State Park! Three guest cabins are located on six serene, quiet and beautiful acres in Custer County, SD.
The Carriage House is a new, two level, two queen, two twin, two suite 800 square foot home that was built in 2016. It has a garage and 300 ft of redwood decks on the upper and lower floors.
The first level has a full kitchen, dining area, and a convertible living room that includes a high end queen sized sofa sleeper. We also have two twin size roll away beds available upon request. These two roll-away beds can be added to the lower or upper suites. The first floor suite has a private bath/shower restroom that is at the foot of the stairs on the second level.
The second level suite has a master bedroom which includes a separate full bath/shower. The master has a queen bed with high end bedding. There is an entrance from the master suite out to a beautiful wrap around redwood deck which has a dining table and chairs and a spectacular view of the mountains and meadows. We feel this is one of the best things about the Carriage House!! . There is a large oak tree that the deck was built around and there is a great view from every angle. It is a very peaceful and serene place to sit and relax.
There is a washer/dryer available to both suites.
**Just to make sure there's no misunderstandings, we do not rent the suites out separately. We are just letting you know that both the upper and lower levels have separate entrances and privacy. 😊
All cabins include wifi, air conditioning, heating and outdoor dining facilities with access to a barbecue grill. There is no cable TV in any of our cabins but upon request, a 32”Roku TV can be provided during your stay.
*No age requirement for the Carriage House
**There is a 3 day minimum to rent the Carriage House
McDonald Mountain ranch also has a swing set and other outdoor equipment for children to use. There is a large meadow on the property and if you walk to the end of it you can see Mt. Rushmore through the trees.
McDonald Mountain Ranch is in a very convenient location. Beautiful Lakota Lake, which is a fishing lake, is within walking distance (.8 mile) behind the ranch along with a creek and a waterfall to add to the beauty.
Another popular and beautiful lake, Center Lake, is a swimming/fishing lake with picnic tables, barbeque grills, showers and restrooms and is 2 miles away from the ranch.
The Black Hills Historic Playhouse is also with a few miles. The beautiful Iron Mountain Hiking Trail is right around the corner. The Wolf Camp outdoor restaurant which serves barbeque ribs, burgers, pizza, etc is 1/2 mile away.
Custer State Park is also within a few miles. In our opinion we have the best and most beautiful property and location in the hills!
Unfortunately due to many considerations and despite the fact that we are huge animal lovers, we do not allow pets in our cabins.
Check in is at 4:00pm. Because we have a full house and are small staffed please do not arrive early. Late check in is fine of course but please notify us so we can make sure cabin lights are turned on and door unlocked. Thanks!!
Ps. The owners of the ranch are Richard and Carol McDonald. Richard, an architect, grew up in the hills. His grandfather, Cecil Gideon, was the architect/builder of the famous Pigtail Bridges on Iron Mountain Rd and also Custer State Game Lodge. Gideon also provided help on Mt Rushmore and was a personal guide to President Coolidge. Richard has a rich history in the Black Hills and is willing to provide information to any who desire it.Get the full listing »
