The Selene forest is without a doubt the most visited tourist destination. Lush ilex and oak spread over much of the area where true botanical rarities are concentrated, along with wildlife. There are also a few refreshment areas for visitors. The location can also be reached with the 'Trenino verde' (green train), which allows visitors to enjoy the healthy air typical of the area for most of the year. Numerous sources of pure fresh water that supply the nearby Alto Flumendosa lake are also present. A Nuraghe, Tomba dei Giganti, holy well and other pre-historic objects hidden by vegetation.
Beautiful old buildings, neat squares, a breathtakingly beautiful decor; Lanusei, the capital of the Ogliastra province, is located in eastern Sardinia on the ridges between Mount Gennargentu and the coast, and between the green of the hinterland and the deep blue sea. The inhabited center develops around the seat of the diocese, the cathedral of Santa Maria Maddalena, dating from 1860 but founded in the seventeenth century. On the outside we find the excellent cycle of frescoes dedicated to the life of Mary Magdalene and Christ, completed in 1927 by Mario Delitala, one of the leading exponents of Sardinian painting of the XX century.
The Diocesan Museum Ogliastra is also of great importance and is located on the site of the Bishop's Seminary on Via Roma. As you walk the streets of the city, it is not unusual to find commemorative plaques dedicated to the eminent people who once lived here. Below we find the plaque dedicated to the family of Gamelredo Mameli, the composer of the Italian national anthem, who was born in Lanusei.
