Montegrilli is a historic villa dating from the 13th century. It has recently been restored to combine the best of old and new.
There's a large lounge, dining-room, library and kitchen on the ground floor and 7 bedrooms upstairs. Outside there are patios, garden and a pool.
The villa is located conveniently close to the shops and amenities of Monteroni D'Arbia, it's just a short drive to Siena or to the Brunello-winelands of Montalcino.
The ground floor of the villa has light and airy reception rooms that open onto patios with barbecues, ideal for watching the sunset. The farmhouse kitchen has two Smeg ovens. The dining room is set up for 6 guests, but the table arrangement can be changed to accommodate 12 people, or even more in the lounge. The lounge sofas are white, but they're Scotchguarded, and we provide loads of throws so you don't have to tiptoe round things. There's a full bathroom downstairs and 2 cloakrooms.
Upstairs, there are two suites with dressing rooms and en-suite bathrooms that have baths and separate showers. The dressing room in one of these suites is big enough for 2 single sofa beds, so this doubles up as a seventh bedroom, for families with small children.
Then there are two spacious bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms that have showers.
Finally there are two more bedrooms, one of which has a kitchenette. These bedrooms each have 2 single sofa beds that can be pushed together to make a single double bed. When these bedrooms are in use, they share the bathrooms of the two bedrooms above. However, the access to the bathrooms remains private for each bedroom. There's no need to go through another bedroom to get to a bathroom.
There's a drawing included with the photos to make the layout clearer.
Additional beds or cots for children can be provided and all the double beds can be changed to singles and vice-versa.
The showers in the bathrooms have both rain-shower heads and height-adjustable hand-held heads. All the showers are spacious.
In spring and early summer, the grounds of the villa are full of wild flowers that attract hundreds of butterflies. Guests can pick fruit from the trees or help themselves to vegetables from the vegetable garden. Early risers can spot deer, hares, and even porcupines.
There's a 10m x 5m salt-water pool, a paddling pool for children, 2 gas barbecues and 2 wood-burning or charcoal barbecues. (Only charcoal can be used in summer because of fire restrictions in our zone.) Games, toys and bikes (free of charge) are provided.
The villa's 360° views of unspoilt Tuscan scenery encompass the picturesque village of Radi in the west, and Monte Amiato to the south. On a clear day, the towering fortifications of Castiglione D'Orcia and Rocca D'Orcia are visible in the distance. The south terrace is the ideal spot to watch the sun go down.
Monteroni D'Arbia, with it's impressive fortified mill and surrounding historic buildings, is 3kms from the property. There's a well-stocked supermarket and all the other amenities you'd expect in a medium-sized town. Siena is a 10-minute drive on the old road to Rome in one direction, and Montalcino in the other. Royal Golf La Bagnaia is also 10 minutes away, and all the famous sights of Tuscany are within easy reach, including the beautiful, rugged Maremma area.
Air-conditioning is available.
All rooms have wi-fi.
Reception areas (kitchen, lounge, dining room, etc) are cleaned Monday-Friday.
