Charming and rustic little house nestled in the green of an impressive valley, at the confluence of the Randaragna and Reno rivers, along the historic railway line connecting Bologna and Porretta. From our holiday home you have the opportunity to reach Pistoia - Cultural Capital of Italy in 2017 - as well as Porretta Terme - a well-known health resort where the Soul Festival takes place - by bus or train. You can also enjoy the local produce grown in the home garden. The Upper Rhine Valley and the municipality of Alto Reno Terme offer many cultural and tourist attractions as well as recreational opportunities.
In Porretta Terme, the famous Porretta Soul Festival takes place every summer. Porretta and its surroundings have a lot to offer: two swimming pools, two thermal spas, an adventure park, historical monuments, such as the Manservisi Castle and the small castle of Rocchetta Mattei, as well as areas of outstanding natural beauty such as Castagno Park and Lake Suviana.
Randaragna is a small village in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, located in the municipality of Alto Reno Terme in the province of Bologna. It is 490 meters above sea level, on the left bank of the River Reno. The right bank of the river is already in Tuscany. Randaragna and Biagioni are the southernmost point of Emilia. Worth seeing in Randaragna is the watermill, where until the 90s chestnuts were ground. Typical local dishes include Tortellone Montanaro, to which locals dedicate a folk festival, usually held on the first weekend of August. Not far from Randaragna lies the village of Biagioni, where in the summer of 1944 eleven people were killed by both the Italian and the German army.
The valley "Valle del Reno" is crossed by the railway line Bologna-Pistoia - also called "the Porrettana": it is a 99 km long railway that connects Bologna with Pistoia and Porretta Terme. This railway line - also known as the "Central Italy Railway Line" - represents the first link between central and northern Italy in history. She was at 2. Officially opened in November 1864 by King Vittorio Emanuele II. At that time, with its 47 tunnels, 35 bridges and viaducts, it represented a monumental masterpiece of engineering. On the section between Pracchia and Pistoia, a height difference of 550 meters was overcome for 26 km. The French engineer Jean Louis Protche was commissioned to build this work. He had the idea to realize the railway line by two bends in order to avoid a rack system. The train ride will allow you to reach Pistoia from Bologna while enjoying a beautiful view of the Apennines.
10 km from the holiday home is the town of Porretta Terme, capital of the municipality of Alto Reno Terme. A charming village famous for its thermal waters. It offers so many attractions that every tourist gets his taste. The thermal baths have been appreciated since ancient times by the Etruscans and the Romans. Since that time, the healing properties of the thermal spring are known. The existence of these thermal baths is documented by an archaeological find: it is the famous mask that represents the face of a lion and has become the symbol of the thermal baths of Porretta.
The park of the Suviana and Brasimone lakes is located in the central area of the Alto Appennino Bolognese on the border with Tuscany. Here you can go hiking and surfing.
The geographical position of Porretta makes it an ideal place for those who want to visit the Tuscan cities of Pistoia, Florence, Lucca and Viareggio or visit Bologna, Ferrara and its attractions.
The naturalistic offer that the region offers can satisfy the most demanding fans of trekking, mountain biking, windsurfing and skiing. The Corno alle Scale (2000 meters high) is one of the highest peaks of the central Apennines. Ideal in summer for hiking, mountain biking and paragliding; In winter ideal for snow lovers thanks to the 36 km long ski slopes.
Tortelloni, mortadella, tortellini, lasagna, grape crescenta, castagnaccio, tigelle and certosino are just some of the products that have made the city of Bologna and its province famous in the world. The wines from the Colli Bolognesi, which have a controlled designation of origin (in Italian DOC), are of excellent taste. All these specialties can be tasted in the numerous restaurants of the area.
The Ecomuseum of the Pistoia Mountains (Ecomuseo della Montagna Pistoiese) is only 8 km from the holiday home. It opened in 1990 and consists of 6 outdoor routes, museums, educational centers and historic craft products. These products, which testify to the relationship between man and the environment, allow visitors to get to know the mountains around Pistoia better.
