The Calla School House was built over 100 years ago and served as the village school of Ballyconneely until the 1970's. Afterwards the house was extended and used privately; bought from us in 2013, renovated and completely renovated considering the old structures.
Unique is the location of the house on the 'Wild Atlantic Way': right on the coast, framed by the 'bog', (bog), a lake and mountains: Connemara pure! Near Clifden, Connemara's capital with many restaurants and shopping, and Roundstone, one of Ireland's prettiest seaside towns.
The coastline offers many of Connemara's most beautiful beaches of varying character in the surrounding area. Calla Beach is within walking distance in 10 minutes. Our attraction: hiking at low tide on the uninhabited little island (Inis Stavros) :)
The house has 3 bedrooms, 1 living room and a dining room, a large kitchen, 1 bathroom with shower and two sinks. The glass-fronted veranda offers unparalleled views across Maumeen Lake, where the sky is mirrored, the moorland where sheep and horses graze, and the Twelve Bens mountain range.
The house is equipped with a new gas central heating / hot water, whose consumption is individually controlled with a timer.
The energy costs (minus the first 10,00 €) will be charged separately after meter reading and deducted from the deposit after departure.
The house is surrounded by an approximately 2000 square meter garden, which has several terraces with seating and small tables. There is also a picnic table. In the so-called "Swimming pool"
can be protected from the wind with a view of the mountains and the Maumeen Lake wonderful rest!
Let's talk to one of our guests:
".... Calla Old School House is not a holiday home in the true sense. Rather, it is a home borrowed from the owner for a week or more. And that's also how it feels like home. The drawers are full of useful things, Tesafilm, writing utensils, sewing kit, tools, hand mixer, casserole, etc. The house offers plenty of space: a large living room, dining room and kitchen, bathroom, three bedrooms and a conservatory. In addition, it is very tastefully decorated and with great attention to detail. Not forgetting the beautiful garden, which can even come up with a seat and garden furniture, for Ireland an absolute rarity, as here actually gravel courts dominate the house. Everything complies with German standards, dishwasher, coffee maker, central heating, hot water, etc. Not to mention the wonderful little details such. B. the electric blanket in the master bedroom. We also enjoyed the fireplace, although we still have not figured out how to make peat briquettes burn. With us they just smiled. We enjoyed living, reading, cooking, sitting in the garden in the sun, watching the sunset, eating in the conservatory, collecting shells on the beach, visiting the island at low tide and listening to the wind. Anyone who misses the internet here can only be a playful teenager - just like our son. But even he had to admit that the house is just great ..... "Get the full listing »
