This modern townhome, finished in February 2015, is located in Houston's up-and-coming East Downtown (EaDo) neighborhood. It's mixed artsy and industrial decor gives you a feel for the culture of the neighborhood you are in. Situated just 4 blocks east of Minute Maid Park, you get a quiet neighborhood feel within walking distance of the hustle and bustle of downtown!
There is one bedroom on the first floor and two bedrooms, including the master, on the third floor with common living space (living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry room, etc.) on the second floor. Each bedroom has it's own private full bathroom, and there is a half bathroom with toilet and sink in the common area on the second floor. We comfortably list the house for 12 people, but doubling up on the heavy duty queen air mattress and the living room couch, you could sleep 14... or more if you bring additional air mattresses/sleeping bags.
We would like our place to be as homey as possible during your stay. You will have full access to every area of the house although some closets will be full of our own personal stored items. That being said, you have full permission to use the space/items (this goes for closet space, food in the fridge/pantry, use of grill, use of ironing board, kitchenware, books, record player, gaming system, etc.). We do ask that you call first if you have any questions about how things work or if you are unsure about operating something at the house. I'm ALWAYS available by cell phone.
I will give you one clicker for the security gate and one clicker for our garage door at check in, as well as the gate code for entering by foot. We have a Vivint home security and thermostat system at the house. I do not require guests to use it, but I will give you a brief tutorial about operating the security system if you would like. I will place some instruction sheets on any other items in the house that may not be self-explanatory.
There is enough room for one car to park inside our garage, and any additional vehicles can park anywhere on Commerce Street out front. There is no marked or reserved parking anywhere on our street.
All I ask is that you respect the house and my neighbors! I don't care if you drink/party as long as nothing gets broken, and I'd prefer that no one other than the registered guests come over without asking me first (if you're in town visiting family/friends, and they want to come over, I'm fine with situations like that). Keep the music level at an acceptable volume, my neighbors are pretty easy-going to normal party levels of noise on the weekends, but we tend to turn speakers down around midnight just out of courtesy and respect. As far as cleaning goes, I ask that you take all trash out to the garage, leave any used dishes in the sink and wipe up any spills/food crumbs on counters and tables that are cooked/eaten on... I will take care of the rest. We have cleaning supplies below the kitchen sink if you need something extra to clean up a spill.
The area is very urban/artsy with several art studios and office warehouses lining the street. There is a great hipster cafe called Tout Suite just down the street at the corner of Commerce & Chartres Streets perfect for your morning coffee and breakfast. Two blocks north on Navigation Blvd. is the "Esplanade" which is a recently beautified divided street with a walking path and seating areas down the middle. The "Esplanade" was created in honor of the rich Mexican tradition that made our neighborhood what it is today. It's the home of the original Ninfa's and El Tiempo restaurants (best Mexican food in town) as well as a farmers market every Sunday morning. Other attractions within walking distance of the house include:
Minute Maid Park (home of the Astros) - 6 blocks
Settegast Park (neighborhood park) - 5 blocks
BBVA Compass Stadium (home of the Dynamo) - 0.5 miles
BeFit Gym (Great local gym w/ daily rates) - 0.8 miles
Discovery Green (Downtown urban park) - 0.9 miles
8th Wonder (Local brewery w/ great beer specials) - 0.9 miles
Market Square Park (Downtown park) - 1.1 miles
Toyota Center (home of the Rockets) - 1.2 miles
Green Street (Downtown shopping/dining) - 1.3 miles
There are also several restaurants and bars within a half mile walk of the house. I can provide a list of my recommendations if requested.
The house is half a mile from EaDo/Stadium Station which is one of the stops on the Green and Purple Lines of the Houston METRORail. Just 2 stops on a westbound train gets you to Central Station in the heart of downtown. From here you can jump over to Main street and get on the Red Line southbound which will take you directly to NRG Stadium (home of the Texans and Super Bowl LI). The best part is... the METRORAIL is only $2.50 round trip! There are also several Houston METRO Bus stops around the house which can take you virtually anywhere in the city. All bus trips are $1.25 each way.Get the full listing »
