Walk through the Japanese courtyard and into a large family gathering space with kitchen. Huge glass doors open the expansive ocean views and warm breezes. Centered by an enormous Koa wood slab kitchen bar fronting the fully equipped kitchen.
The house is sprinkled with Hawaiiana artwork and furniture from historical places such as the Volcano House. There is a unique pool table for fun, satellite TV and Wifi. Or let the island ways creep in and just chill and enjoy the view.
Step up into the historical portion of the house to find new sumptuous sleeping quarters separated for privacy, each with its own character and outstanding amenities.
The Ocean Suite is a spacious private bedroom and ensuite bath. Enjoy the breeze as you look out over the ocean horizon from your king size bed. Soak your stress away in the tub with sweeping views of the coastline.
The Garden Suite is on the mauka (mountain) side of the house overlooking the garden. This suite has a separate entrance onto a covered sitting porch. A queen bed and a sitting area with futon for extra sleeping space. There is also a private entrance to the Spa Bath.
The Reading Room can be used for quiet time away from the family room, or extra sleeping space with the addition of an inflatable bed.
The Spa Bath, with cedar ceiling, and custom steam shower is a luxurious place to linger. Stand under a rain shower with body sprays to invigorate your skin, or have a seat and melt away the world in steam.
Step outside the cottage and you’ll find manicured lawns, a kitchen garden, flowering plants, and fruit trees. The property also offers covered parking for rainy days, a laundry area, and storage for beach and fun equipment.
Hale Ilio Himeni, only 5 miles from downtown Hilo, feels like another place in time. The temperatures at this elevation are 60-85°F and we have frequent aftrrnoon rain showers. It is rarely hot enough for A/C, and during the winter months you may want an extra blanket at night! Perfect weather to enjoy cool nights for snuggling and warm days for island fun.
There are plenty of adventures to be had within a short distance. Your island homebase is centrally located only a few miles to local Hilo hot spots and attractions. Each direction offers a different climate and various things to see and explore. West is straight down the hill to the beaches of Hilo. You can drive South through Pahoa to the Kalapana lava flow or Volcano National Park at Kilauea. A short trip North will bring you to the waterfalls and eco fun on the Hamakua Coast. Or grab your coats and go East climbing to 14,000 feet elevation at the chilly Mauna Kea summit!
