Information about Kontokali
The suburb of Kontokali is just 5km from the town of Corfu, with frequent bus links. Its infrastructure includes hotels, rented accommodation, villas, restaurants, bars, shops, travel agencies etc.
The village takes its name from the Corfiot hero Kontokalis, who fought at the famous naval battle of Nafpaktos. Along with other men from the island, Kontokalis took part, with his own vessel, in what was at the time the biggest naval battle ever fought. His courage played an important part in the victory of the allied western powers. As a token of its gratitude, the Venetian administration made him a gift of much land on the island and named this village after him.
Information about Corfu
The verdant island of Corfu, with its crystal-clear waters and picturesque little bays and inlets, is one of the most beautiful and cosmopolitan of all the Greek islands.
Corfu is located in the Ionian Sea and is an ideal holiday destination, with immaculately clean beaches and lots of archaeological remains, historical buildings and churches to visit. The Venetian influence is dominant, but both France and England have also contributed much to the island’s architecture and way of life.Get the full listing »
