This contemporary farmhouse is the epitome of wine country indoor/outdoor enjoyment. It was built by and furnished for the owners’ living in casual art-filled elegance.
Views of the Sonoma Valley, Mayacamas Mountains, and Sonoma Mountain are expansive, from both inside and outside.
The quiet private residence is entirely surrounded by patios and decks, which lead to lush landscaping and a grand expanse of game-friendly lawn (an outdoor toy shed includes bocce set, croquet set, volleyball/badminton set, horseshoes).
The terrace-surrounded (shallow) pool, which uses a low chlorine system, allows for stair sitting and lap swimming and is attached to a large spa with multiple jets. There are four chaise lounges and multiple outdoor chairs.
A wisteria-covered gazebo offers table and bench seating for 10 adjacent to a grill area with 4 separate grilling spaces totaling almost 8 feet, large stone prep counter and storage sink.
If sunny seating is desired, an outdoor table facing the Mayacamas Mountains and vineyards seats 6-8, with multiple umbrellas.
A separate attached deck includes a ping pong table.
Beyond the patios, landscaping and lawn, the remainder of the 12 acres of grounds are a naturalist’s delight, including a wide variety of majestic native trees.
There is a basketball hoop at the driveway.
The approx. 4,300 square foot home includes 4 bedrooms and 5.5 baths.
Downstairs, the open plan family room and kitchen features granite countertop seating beneath a high wood-beamed ceiling, surrounded by French doors accessing the outdoor entertainment areas. A 50 inch concealed TV is located in the family room.
The kitchen area includes a butcher block island, a Wolf Pro cooktop with indoor infrared grill, Thermador oven, combination microwave/convection oven, and large KitchenAid refrigerator/freezer. A separate pantry provides staples for guests’ use and a garden sink. (The lush herb garden is also available for guests’ enjoyment.)
Another bathroom is situated adjacent to the pantry: with outside access, it is convenient for after-swimming showering.
The sizable living and dining space also features high-beamed ceilings and multiple French doors oriented toward outside views, and includes a large gas-started wood-burning fireplace. The indoor dining table comfortably seats 8. Also on the main floor are a bedroom with queen bed and en-suite bath; a large library with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves; and a powder room.
Upstairs, the queen bed master suite includes a private balcony, single soaking tub, fireplace and beamed ceilings. An indoor ‘patio’ leads to an additional en-suite bedroom; a fitness room with elliptical machine, weights and yoga equipment; and a laundry area. Also upstairs is a large suite: originally designed as a ‘children’s wing’, the suite includes built-in three-tiered bunk beds and a queen sofa bed, as well as a tub with shower bathroom.
Despite its grand mountain views, the home is only 2 miles from the lovely town of Glen Ellen, with its fabulous market and multiple restaurants. For the adventurous, Jack London Park can be accessed via the ‘back way’ and hiking trails abound there, as well as at nearby Sonoma Valley Regional Park, Annadel Park and Sugarloaf and Hood Mountains.
Seemingly countless wineries are nearby, and the Sonoma Square is about 20’ away.
Wifi is available inside and outside.
The audio system includes 4 sets of speakers throughout the house, a CD changer, and iPod connection.
The entire house benefits from a reverse osmosis water purification system: better than bottled water!
There is no air conditioning.
There is a pool/spa heating surcharge (at the cost of excess propane). The pool/spa are not covered.
Outdoor parking is available close to the house.
An in-person meeting time must be arranged.
Owner is available by phone for suggestions, and owner or representative is available to resolve issues. One responsible guest must sign and return the rental agreement within 24 hours of booking and take responsibility for contract terms. All guests must be at least 25 years old; all guest names and ages must be provided. Overnight and daytime occupancy is limited to 10 people; 8 people is a suggested number for maximum enjoyment.
