La Florette and Chez Magali are two houses about 10 yards apart. Normally let separately, they can be brought together for larger groups up to 16 people (plus 2 babies). They sleep 10 and 6 people respectively, plus two cots. Both houses share the long south-facing front terrace, the lawn, the field beyond and the beautiful swimming-pool 11x5ms. with detached cascading paddling-pool. The houses have their own private secure parking. They are fewer than 100 yards from the river Aude. Access is easy by road and rail. Both houses are advertised with Owners Direct - nos: FR3841 and FR9822. Detailed descriptions are contained in these two advertisements.
To begin with La Florette, the larger of the two houses. You enter through metal gates onto your drive with copious secure parking space. Crossing the front terrace you go into the separate dining-room through porte-fenêtres. Beyond the dining-room is the well-eqipped kitchen - 4-ring Stove cooker, fridge freezer (there is another freezer in the house), washing-machine, (a second washing machine is available also), dish-washer, microwave and all necessary utensils. A door leads from the kitchen to your back garden with patio and one of your two barbecues.
Also on the ground-floor is the large living-room with comfortable seating, TV, wifi, DVD player with DVDs, cassette-player with cassettes, hundreds of books in English. (Unfortunately, reception of UK television programmes has recently (8/18) been withdrawn. It may be restored - keep trying!). The living-room looks south over the terrace. Opposite it, is a spacious double bedroom suitable for anyone with mobility difficulties. There is a small wc/basin on this floor.
Upstairs, the second double bedroom is on your right, with en suite shower and basin. To your left are the three twin bedrooms looking south towards the Corbières hills. All bedrooms have ample wardrobe and drawer space. On this floor there is the bathroom with bath, separate shower cabinet, bidet and wash-basin; another room with shower, washbasin and wc; and a separate wc.
Outside seating is at one end of the long front terrace. At the other end is the dining area with overhead lighting and second barbecue. The terrace looks onto the lawn, surrounded by a variety of trees, shrubs and bushes. There is a double swing on the lawn. Just beyond the lawn (a little distance from the house for safety) is the large swimming-pool, 11x5ms, securely surrounded by wall or fencing, with a child-proof entrance. The broad patio is a veritable suntrap. There is overhead lighting as well as under-water lighting in the pool itself. At one corner of the pool is the separate paddling-pool from which water cascades into the shallow end. It is easily supervised. There is plenty of seating, tables, hammock, loungers, swing etc. on the patio. Beyond the swimming-pool is a large field for ball games or whatever.
Moving to Chez Magali: This is a recent renovation, quite different in character from La Florette. You enter from the lane into your secure parking space. Walking through the garden and patio with shrubs and bushes on either side and lit in the evenings by overhead lighting, you come to your front door which lets you into the single, enormous room on the ground floor. Apart from the downstairs wc and the porch, the ground-floor is taken up by the kitchen area to your right, the dining area in the middle and the sitting area to your left. Windows look over the lawn to the south and open fields to the west. The kitchen is very well-equipped with 4-ring cooker, dish-washer, washing-machine (a second washing machine is available also), fridge/freezer, microwave, and all the necessary utensils and gadgets. Adjacent - and convenient for serving - is the dining table which sits six people comfortably under its chandelier. At the far end is the sitting area with comfortable seating, TV (see above), wifi, DVD player with DVDs, cassette player with cassettes, and many books in English to suit all tastes. The living-room walls are mainly pierre apparente, retaining some original features.
Upstairs, to your left are the double bedroom with 4-poster and en suite shower-room, and one of the two twin bedrooms. These rooms look south over the front lawn. The second twin bedroom has a balcony looking towards thriver Aude. The bathroom has bath and wash-basin. There is a separate wc on both floors.
Access is easy by road and air. Carcassonne airport is about 10 miles away mainly by autoroute. The nearest autoroute access is at Trèbes about 3 miles away, and from there it is a quick, easy drive to the far side of Narbonne and then down by a country road to the resorts of Gruissan or Narbonne Plage; or to Toulouse in the other direction. There is little in Floure itself apart from the wonderful Château restaurant in superb grounds - good for that special evening out. Carcassonne is about five miles away, the largest medieval fortified city in Europe. It is a magnificent sight with many interesting features as well as activities for children.
Between La Florette and Chez Magali is the house which we keep for our personal use. We do not stay at the house when La Florette or Chez Magali are occupied. You will have the run of the entire grounds.Get the full listing »
