The owners of Maison Henri are happy to invite you to experience their beautiful holiday home in the picturesque chateau town of Josselin, a French “petite cite de caractere”. An ideal base for walking, cycling or kayaking, the house is a few minutes stroll from the town centre with its many restaurants. The nearest boulangerie is opposite the house with its enticing daily fare of pastries and cakes. Just follow your nose! Bicycles and kayaks can be hired just 500 meters from the house. Josselin has a lively mix of shops, restaurants, bars and cafes. The magnificent chateau, still inhabited by the Rohan family, has guided tours in both French and English.
Every Saturday is market day in Josselin. Local fresh produce including, cheese, vegetables, shellfish and cold meats are on sale.
The accommodation, sleeping 6, (in three bedrooms) is on three levels. Maison Henri has been lovingly cared for and beautifully furnished in traditional Breton style by the owners. The kitchen and adjoining breakfast room was refitted in April 2019 to offer a spacious area for cooking and dining. There is also a comfortable lounge, and a summer dining room. The pretty back garden is on two levels affording a view of the canal where boats pass by in the summer months.
The front door leads directly to the entrance hall. Just off the hall on the left is the superbly fitted kitchen with a large integral dining area. On the right hand side is the spacious lounge with its comfortable seating and woodburner for use during the cooler months. A TV monitor and DVD player is provided along with a selection of childrens’ and adults’ films. Also a CD player with IPOD and MP3 docking facility.
An archway leads through to the summer dining room. Perfect for dining whilst watching the “traffic” glide by along the canal. There is a small “Juliet” balcony to the room which gives a view towards the chateau.
A WC and wash basin is also available at this level.
The elegant wooden staircase leads to the first and second floor.
The Master Bedroom (Bedroom 1) has a King Size bed and ensuite shower cubicle.
Bedroom 2 also has a King Size bed and a wash basin.
The family bathroom is on this level and has a bath, washbasin and overhead shower. Next door is a separate WC.
On the second floor is Bedroom 3, a twin room with 2 single beds.
All bedrooms have views over the canal.
Outside at the terrace level is a store room with a washing machine.
Lavender bushes, hollyhocks, roses and much more grow in abundance in this lovely garden. Stone steps access the lawned area which also has fruit trees. A gas BBQ and outdoor furniture are provided.
Dogs are generally welcome. Please enquire at time of booking! We can organise an appointment for the required veterinary treatment prior to your travel back to the UK.
We can offer a 20% discount on Brittany Ferries. This applies to each standard car and passenger.
Linen and towels are provided.
Changeover day is flexible in all seasons.. This allows you to take advantage of cheaper weekday ferries. Minimum stay is 4 nights apart from High Season when it is 7 nights.
Brittany is easily accessible from the UK via several Ferry Ports and is also served by flights from the UK to 4 French airports.
From spectacular beaches with rugged coastlines to vast sandy expanses, to peaceful woods and forests and the famous Nantes-Brest Canal, Brittany has all the makings of a perfect holiday.
The cuisine in the area includes crepes and galettes and of course the seafood! Mussels and oysters are available throughout the region, particularly in the summer months. Cider is produced here and local varieties are available in all supermarkets and restaurants.
During the summer numerous villages and town celebrate the "Pardon" which is predominantly a religious thanksgiving but is always followed by a celebratory meal (with a drink or two!) and Breton dancing.Get the full listing »
