This apartment is ideally located in the heart of the historic district of Pézenas. You will see and feel the centuries of history everywhere you look. Pézenas has managed to retain all of the charm of an important medieval town while incorporating wonderful restaurants, cafes, boutiques and antique shops. Individual, one-of-a-kind artists are strongly encouraged to maintain their presence in the winding streets of the historic district.
In the morning, stroll down the Cours Jean Jaurès and pick up some freshly-baked croissants, pains aux chocolat and be back in your dining room, only a few minutes away (if you can resist the temptation to stop and chat with the locals). Or truly settle into the relaxed lifestyle and have your breakfast at one of the nearby cafes. For lunch and dinner, you will find quite a number of excellent choices, all within a five minute walk from the apartment. We will be happy to tell you about our favourites, and those that our previous guests have discovered.
Every Saturday morning, the Cours Jean Jaurès is transformed into a traditional French market. At the top of the market, just steps away from the apartment, you will find fresh and prepared meats and fish, cheeses and breads, and tapenade and olives. Continue down the market to see the clothes and house wares, followed by an extensive variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. If you've worked up an appetite from walking the market, you will find fresh rotisserie chickens roasting to perfection.
There are events year-round. One of the most well-known is "Les Estivales de Pézenas", held every Friday evening in July and August. The street is lined with local vendors selling freshly prepared dishes, as well as many local wine producers offering samples. Five euros entitles you to two glasses of wine, and you get to keep the glass should you want to do more tasting. Live music and long banquet tables provides the opportunity to mix with the locals and other travellers alike.
Although you can immerse yourself in the relaxed Pézenas lifestyle and forget what day it is, you will want to explore nearby sights. A very good and inexpensive bus service is available to the surrounding villages and towns. Pézenas is in the heart of the Languedoc region of the South of France, a vast wine making region. Its location is a great base for exploring the surrounding areas. Drive south to explore the many nearby Mediterranean ports and beaches, including Sète, Cap d'Agde, Marseillan and Narbonne. Cathar castles and the famous medieval town of Carcassonne are to the west. Head north to Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert, Lac du Salagou, the Millau Viaduct and the National Park of the High Languedoc , offering walking and cycling trails. The Roman city of Nîmes and the fabulous city of Montpellier lie to the east. You will find endless places to explore. The Spanish border is only an hour and a half away, and in the opposite direction, you can be in Aix-en-Provence in two and a half hours.
The price includes WiFi, linen, towels and end-of-stay clean.
Prices quoted are for 2 people. A small surcharge will be added for additional persons.
