Award winning, certified landscape designer, Susan Cohan, APLD, specializes in the creation of beautifully crafted outdoor spaces designed to complement their surroundings and enhance the lives of their owners.

From woodland walks to patios, outdoor kitchens, or garden rooms, design inspiration is drawn from the site itself and the owner's dreams and desires for their property. Attention to detail and fine craftsmanship are hallmarks of Cohan's work. Artisanal stonework, handmade details, and plants chosen specifically for each site combine to address each project's unique characteristics. No two finished landscapes are ever the same.

In addition to residential landscapes for private clients she has won the highest design honors for her concept gardens for the New Jersey Flower and Garden Show and the Mansion in May. The first of two concept gardens for 2007, 'Titania's Bower' was created for the 2007 New Jersey Flower and Garden Show was based on Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. In addition to a People's Choice award, the garden won the Louise Morris Memorial Award for best interpretation of the show's theme as well as two additional first place prizes for the most environmentally friendly garden and the best educational garden. In May, the second was a brick and turf stairway and garden created for the VNA Showhouse at Scothigh Farm in Rumson, NJ.

After achieving a successful career in the fashion industry, Susan switched gears and fused her love for design with a lifelong passion for gardening. In addition earning an honors certificate in garden design from the English Gardening School at the Chelsea Physic Gardens in London, Susan has earned certificates in horticulture and landscape design from Rutger's University. Susan Cohan's work has been featured in traditional and digital print as well as on the radio. She serves as secretary/treasurer of the New Jersey Chapter of the Association of Professional Landscape Designers (APLD).

Susan Cohan guides her clients through the design/build process from concept to completion. Each step along the way is communicated to the client enabling them to visualize how all of the elements will be combined into a unified and very personal garden setting. From pool tiles to stone to plants, clients are encouraged to participate in the selection of materials used for their projects which furthers the personal characteristics of their finished landscape.
