>> The space
Surrounded by the forest at the Tuwanek Retreat, you have many choices on how you want to spend your days and nights. From sipping a latte, you made with the espresso maker, while watching the hummingbirds buzz by on the patio, to beachcombing a mere ten minutes walk away, to visiting art galleries and breweries or hiking your way through some unspoilt natural beauty. Perhaps you'd rather stay in and play some board games with the family (we have a great selection for kids and grown-ups), or maybe you prefer to game with the XboxOne or wii, or perhaps pool or darts are more your cup of tea. The choice is yours. Finish the night off with a homecooked meal from the newly renovated kitchen and some roasted marshmallows from the fire pit, or a glass of wine in the hot tub, while enjoying the serenity of the forest.
The kitchen, dining and lounge area is the heart of this retreat; the designer open-plan kitchen, new in 2017, affords all the comforts of home and more - updated pics will be posted in June. It's a true chefs delight with high quality cookware, knives and stainless steel appliances, and complete with all sorts of fun and convenient extras such as waffle makers, filter-less coffee maker, expresso maker and Insta-pot slow-cooker. The dining table seats 8 and is a great size for a family (or two) to connect around, away from the distractions of everyday life.
The master bedroom features a luxurious king bed with the other two bedrooms have queen beds, one firm - one softer - so you can choose just the right firmness for your sleep. The 4th bedroom/office contains a pull out sofa/double; although this room does not have a door, it is tucked away at the end of a corridor and does offer privacy as there is no through foot traffic. All rooms have high quality black out, cordless, blinds that help ensure a good nights sleep for all guests. All bedding is feather free and washed in hypoallergenic solutions (Rockin' Green).
The cabin comes with a range of outdoor activities to help while away the time. The garden shed has a number of fun games such as croquet, bean bag toss, badminton and tennis pole game. If it's in the shed, feel free to use it! For indoor activities there is are a selection of grown up and kids board games and books, and we have an Xbox One and Wii connected up to a 60" 4K LED TV with Netflix and connectors for your own devices. There is also a full size pool table and an electronic dartboard.
The master en-suite has a relaxing rain shower, heated floors. Another 2 full bathrooms are located in the house. One upstairs and one downstairs, so no need to line up for showers in the morning. There is a lovely large hot tub, which has gentle lights that come on at night time so you can soak away the stresses whilst watching the stars and listening to the brook babble through the property. Fluffy towels, as well as towels for the hot tub included.
Mountain biking is world class in this area. Diving is also quite popular in the area as well. Kayak, canoe, SUP rentals less than a 5 minute drive away (you could even walk it). Sechelt Inlet is perfect for this type of activity. Almost more like a lake than ocean.
The cabin offers a number of great places to connect and catch up; the downstairs entertainment area has huge windows look out to the forest and hot tub. The upstairs living room comfortably seats your full party and backs on to the rear deck where you can sit and enjoy the peace and solitude of the property and maybe get visited by the occasional hummingbird.
There are two beaches within ten minutes walk of the cabin where our kids have whiled away many a happy hour beachcombing and finding weird and wonderful things. The property is right next to the Mt Richardson National Park with a series of wonderful trails. For the truly adventurous there are even paddle-in campsites all the way up the Inlet.
