In our White Rock location, Chiropractic is key in the treatment of spinal disorders. The use of Spinal Decompression as an adjunct in treating spinal disorders is very effective in our Surrey area.
Chiropractic care utilizes a wide array of techniques and procedures to treat the many different spinal and peripheral disorders that presents itself to the Chiropractor’s office. Spinal Decompression is a very effective technique for many spinal disorders that may not respond to traditional Chiropractic techniques. Decompression of the spine “unloads” the spine. In a sense, it reduces the effects of gravity. It decreases the protruding or bulging discs in the spine. In its capacity, it can separate the vertebrae increasing the opening where the nerve exits from the spinal column.

Spinal Decompression is a form of advanced traction. Traction in itself is not new and has been around in some form for centuries. Recently, with the advent of new technologies, a more specific, precise treatment can be given. In our office, we use the Triton DTS table. When traction is applied to the body the reaction is to pull in the opposite direction and resist the forces .New technology uses a strain gauge built into the computer. This contains a computer feedback mechanism to overcome this inherent resistance to the traction. This mechanism allows the computer to continuously monitor the muscular reaction to the pull and automatically adjust the distraction parameters. This allows for the maximum therapeutic results. One of the biggest benefits of the technique is its creation of a negative intradiscal pressure for extended periods. It is this negative pressure that pulls the protruding disc back into the disc proper, reducing pressure on the nerve.
The negative pressure in the disc allows the disc to gain the benefits of nutrition. The disc is avascular after the age of around 15. Therefore, there is no direct blood flow and no nutrition and oxygen getting to the disc. The negative pressure produced in the disc by Spinal Decompression causes the disc to pull in oxygen, water and nutrition from the bone of the vertebral body. This also creates a pump for metabolic wastes to be removed from the disc.
What is a reasonable course of therapy for spinal disorders using Spinal Decompression? It could take 20 to 30 visits before significant improvement is shown. Most clinicians will look for signs after 6-8 visits that the treatment is progressing.
This form of Chiropractic in our White Rock area is a very safe procedure. It is a treatment that should be considered before surgery is done.
