Restaurant Description
By JOE CREA PLAIN DEALER FOOD EDITOR Other couples go to Paris or Hawaii on their honeymoons. Us? We want to Cocky and Lenny's. So it was a little more romantic than that. The next morning we embarked on a leisurely cross - country drive to our first apartment in Southern California . But after a day of hiding away , before we hit the interstate, my bride and I couldn't bear to leave Cleveland without one more chance to dip from a bowlful of green tomatoes and half-sours , nosh on crusty rye bread smeared with chopped liver and share a last Reuben. I'd already lived in L.A. a few years , and believe me : out in the land of Liposuction, they really don't know from corned beef. Corky & Lenny's still does. When Clevelanders get down to the cases and lament long- lust favorite restaurants , I Chime in with memories of the funky old Spot in the cedar Center Strip. For the longest time scarcely acknowledged C&L' s second location in the Village Square Shopping Center. When the old place finally closed , I finally threw in the towel and started driving the extra 10 miles or so to Woodmere. It' s Worth every mile. Mecca lives on. Lives on in a newly expanded and handsomely burnished remodel, too. When C&L' s briefly closed last winter, old-timers were wary: Would high polish supplant the place' s gaudy yet comfortable patina of Kitsch? Maybe yes. But Credit jerry Hershman Architects In its place stands a sleek and stylish space that's grown by 2,000 Square feet all done in muted colors and brush chrome, a look that should be the envy of any other deli that choose to update. What hasn' t changed is the food. And the Servers. That' s reason enough to return.

Best Known For...
Corned beef, Matzo ball soup.
