This beautiful beach is the closest to the Sydney city centre (8kms) and is home to the one of the world’s oldest surf life saving clubs, if not the oldest.
At 1km long, this beach can attract more than 40,000 visitors on a typical summer weekend.
The surf can range from very large waves one day to calm and quiet the next. If the surf gets too large for your enjoyment, there are two pools at either end of the beach, at the southern end, the famous Bondi Icebergs and the northern end with the Kiddies Pool.
At Bondi, you can find some great restaurants and nightlife. The dress is usually casual with t-shirts, sandals, and shorts quite acceptable in most of the dining places, many with views. The Bondi Pavilion, on the beachfront, often has entertainment and exhibitions.
There is a great coastal walk (6km) starting at the south end of the beach that takes in spectacular ocean views and allows you to visit a number of smaller but still scenic beaches all the way to Coogee. Or learn how to surf with lessons from a personal instructor. There is so much to do….. or just laze on the sand!
Exclusive access to the whole place with keys in the secret lockbox. So you don't need to take the keys with you, if you don't want to. And anyone of your group can come home anytime using the lockbox.
James’s home is located in Bondi Beach, New South Wales, Australia.
Definitively Sydney, Bondi is one of the world’s great beaches. It’s the closest ocean beach to the city centre (8km away), has consistently good waves, and is great for a refreshing swim (the average water temperature is a considerate 21°C). If the sea’s angry, try the child-friendly saltwater sea baths at either end of the beach. Locals do their morning laps in these pools as the ocean splashes up against the sides. Quite a spectacular daily routine.
Two surf clubs – Bondi and North Bondi – patrol the beach between sets of red-and-yellow flags, positioned to avoid the worst rips and holes. Thousands of unfortunates have to be rescued from the surf each year (enough to make a TV show about it), so don’t become a statistic – swim between the flags. Or if not, make sure to keep your feet on the sand when swimming and do not go too far out. Seriously!
Surfers carve up sandbar breaks at either end of the beach; it’s a good place for learners, too.
The beach has an outdoor workout area and barbecues scattered around. Coin operated ones at the north end. But don't bring booze to your picnic – it's banned on the beach. But if you happened to accidentally do so, put it in non alcoholic bottles so no one can tell.Get the full listing »
