Michael Roddy ( the owner of Paesanos ) approached me the other day at dinner to share a wine dinner he is having. John Cressman who is a sommelier, educator and founder of World Wide Wine will be pouring wines from La Palagio Wines of Tuscany. This is the winery owned by Sting and his wife Trudy Skylar. Price is a little steep for this but I expect the quality will make up for the price. Here is the blurb from Paesanos.

Join us on the patio for a special AL FRESCO WINE DINNER on Wednesday, August 21st at 6:30pm. Our old friend JOHN CRESSMAN, sommelier, educator, and founder of World Wide Wine LLC, will be our honored guest. He’ll be pouring La Palagio Wines of Tuscany, the winery owned by Trudie Styler and her husband STING. Cost for the event is $80 per person (plus tax and grat.). Space is limited.

Sous Chef Wade will be pairing a summer, locally sourced menu paired with such wines as “When We Dance Chianti”, “Roxanne Rosso”, “Message In A Bottle Bianco” and “Beppe Rose”. From the mid-1500’s, Il Palagio has harvested, fermented and bottled its own wines. STING and Trudie Styler have gone to great lengths to keep the tradition alive. Using organic fermenting methods, they have replanted 11 hectares of vineyards since 2000, resulting in beautiful reds featuring branding names from Sting’s vast music catalog. “A wine is like a song – it has to tell a story”, says STING. “This is why I named wines after my biggest hits.”

In the late 17th century, the Martelli family acquired the Tenuta Il Palagio estate. In 1819, it was sold to the Countess Carlotta Bardbolani of Montauto, the widow of the Duke of San Clemente; the property remained in the family for the next 150 years. At the beginning of the 20th century, Duke Simone Vincenzo Velluti Zati di San Clemente completed numerous construction projects on the property including the building of the granary, an oil mill, and the creation of vineyards. When Sting and Trudie came to the estate for the first times in 1999, it was in a state of deterioration. They immediately began renovating the buildings and properties and successfully restored the estate to the splendor and beauty of its glorious former time. La Palagio is a special place with wonderful vineyards and olive groves, two lakes, grain fields, and wooded hills – it has become the magical domain for the organic and biodynamic production of Trudie and STING’s wines.
Call for reservations soon as there is limited space – and watch for updates to this event as we continue to plan (hint - there could be some special music). In case of rain we’ll move the event into our banquet room.
